Goddard was kept back in Aus with the Genia injury. Would much rather him in the u20s squad but there was circumstances behind it and not an over sight from the selectors. On saying that, it's a position we are fairly stacked in at u20 level.

It's a shame Hosea is injured is a very good prospect but excited to have the Reds contingent on their way.

If we take a step back and look at the talent it's actually a fairly decent generation of players this one. You add Stewart, Petaia, Valentini, Hockings, Goddard and a few of the 7s guys for depth (Dylan Peitch, etc.) to this match day 23 and we have a fairly good crop of talent this year. Top 4 worthy. Pretty confident we would of beat Wales and probably minced Japan by more.

All isn't doom and gloom

Maybe Super Rugby needs to look at the SAF decision to start a week earlier (ino they did it for a test) but it also meant all their players were available for this tournament. Maybe on the week off we could have a Wallabies A fixture vs Ireland A or Georgia etc, to provide content
I have first hand knowledge that Goddard was left out of the squad and it was not due to Genias injury. That was a coincidence. He’s not busy this weekend and should have been flown over straight away. Oh but he’s not from Qld!!!

The big question is "Will the team run out in red jerseys v the all blacks?" ;)
I am predicting 12 or 13 Qld in the starting side v New Zealand. They should run out in Red because it is a national disgrace that an Aus team can be picked with such arrogance and bias toward one state that is performing so poorly in Rugby. What the hell are the ARU thinking giving control to these selectors

I don't know how Jason Gilmore can say he was pleased with the performance against Japan. So many avoidable errors and poor individual performances. Why is the team that lost to wales still being fielded? Major changes need to occur if we want to be remotely competitive against NZ. Players in specialist positions need to be performing. Mcdermott is the best option we have in regards to 9. He should start every game. No. 10 needs to improve his kicking, among other things. He struggles to create good attacking opportunities. Hopefully this is addressed for the NZ game. Starting no. 2 had a shocker. First lineout not straight, second lineout was an overthrow. Wonder what his accuracy % is?? Malolo had more of an impact in the short time he was on. The only positive was that we came away with the win. Winning against NZ isn’t impossible, although it will be if the same players are making the same mistakes.
Not sure how he can defend Lawrence Tominiko‘s tackle - he’d be justified in saying the suspension is ridiculously disproportionate but the tackle was ugly as

It's a strange comment considering at this age group QLD has dominated the other states across the last 3 years.

Also has the most players playing consistently in this age group in super rugby.

Some years it happens.

You obviously haven’t been reading this thread. We are 16 pages in to this thread and starting all over!!!
It is well established that this year group has been far from dominant. You are thinking about last years 20s. Qld hasn’t won a schoolboy national championship since 2011 so unless miracles happen in Qld between 18 and 20years this group is mediocre at best. They came 6th and 7 th in the Nationals and that’s all we’ve got to go off.
They only have the most players in Super Rugby because Qld is so bad. They wouldn’t be making Super Rugby in NSW- not even Stewart or Hocking.
Some years selectors and coaches pick their own state.

It seems the old issue of thinking schoolboys make good u20s is happening here.

Qld won the u20s last year with most of those players being bottom age.

Hoopert
Maafu
Stewart
Blyth
Hocking
Lucas
tominiko
Mcreight

All played in that squad and were bottom age.

Views that schoolboys success defines u20s sucess has been a massive floor in the australian system and one that your still campaigning.

The comment saying that 'yeh they have played super rugby but its for qld... so it hardly counts' is ignorant. I am not even going to go in to your comment about these players not being able to make a waratahs squad - as there is a whole different argument there.

But it is undeniable that playing consistent super rugby minutes and training in an elite set up day in day out would be far better preparation for an elite competition. Compared to maybe doing part time professional training and playing amateur footy.

Half of these QLD boys get the guernsey straight off the bat because of this.

JJ, maybe the hammer that tried to knock the massive chip off your shoulder bounced off and smacked you senseless in the head, with your stupid comments.
To have a personal attack on Hamish and Hocking is uncalled for you coward. Both boys are honoured to play for their country. Youve been asked often who in this U/20's is not worthy of selection and you said nothing. Youve continued to hide behind your sorry ass disgruntled, biased and unfounded accusations, of the Qld boys. So name who should not be there or shut the fuck up!!

Surprisingly little coverage of the event here in NZ yet considering we're the defending champions, but hopefully that'll change as of tomorrow when we play your lads at (I think) ~0500 AEST then move into the knockout phase next week.

Interestingly pay-tv don't have it, it's on the state-owned FTA network but at this stage it's on a secondary channel (equivalent of 7mate or gem), that could change I guess esp if NZ happen to make the Final.

That’s a bit of a worry.
I would have thought there’d be a national sport involving picking the next McKenzie and being up on the name of the next big thing in nz rugby.
That it’s not reflects some disenchantment with rugby no?

Based on tournament observations (both near and far) New Zealand won't be too troubled against the Junior Wallabies.

I've just spoken to a taxi driver here in Perpignan who said the Australian players have been regular young men about town. He has made several late night trips to night clubs and out to the beach areas with them. Said they are a bit boisterous, but they pay so that’s good enough for him. He said he also took the team liaison officer out one time who was telling him that the players are not allowed out at all.....
Our mob are there for the craic, player development. :)

I can see all sides of this.
Disquiet at the volume of Qlders reflects the utter lack of transparency in the way this squad was selected.
Absence of transparency is an RA hallmark and it saps confidence in everything they do.
Picking a team from invitation only camps is just about the worst way yo maintain or create confidence in a team and avoid the shit fight of allegations of bias.
The next best way to destroy public confidence is to re-appoint a coach with an appalling record in u20s.

I think it's more that U20's takes a back seat to Super Rugby & AB's at the best of times. Now that Super Rugby is in recess there's more column space available & more scribblers to fill it. If the "Baby Blacks" give your boys a touch-up tomorrow the Hurld etc will be all over it.

Your obsession with where players went to school and not the fact that several are now interstate plying their trade in other locations shows how fixated you are on these players as schoolboys and give no consideration to the two years that have passed since.
