Cottesloe 27 - 41 Palmyra
Joondalup 23 - 25 Associates
Nedlands 32 - 34 West Scarborough
University 25 - 17 Kalamunda
Wanneroo 32 - 12 Perth Bayswater

Match of the round was the 2016 Grand Final replay between Nedlands and Wests Scarborough. Last years decider went to extra time with Wests getting the flag 45 - 26. Both sides are in a mini rebuild with both teams losing some key players over the summer. Wests were too strong in the rematch aswell getting up through a late Albert Nikoro penalty goal to steal the win. Highlight of the match was Future Force fullback James Verity-Amms solo 60 metre try.

Match report Cottesloe vs Joondalup :

https://www.rugbywa.asn.au/news/cottesloe-edge-joondalup-at-the-nest/

So far in 2017 the usual suspects are leading the way with Palmyra, Nedlands and Wests Scarborough all showing why they will be there abouts come the finals. UWA is going through a mini rebuild through their Force Under 20s players, Uyen and Hondros though depth will be an issue if the reserve grade score is to be believed.
Cottesloe, Kalamunda, Associates, Wanneroo and Joondalup all have solid squads and are capable of stringing together some wins and early indications are Perth Bayswater may once again be near the bottom of the ladder, though Baysie did have a premiership winning Under 20s side last year to rebuild off.

G"Day fellow WA Rugby legends, apologies for the serious post. Bit of a 'thing' I am embarking on (see attached file/pic)...and just getting the message out there around the traps in my endeavours to help others. Currently involved with the Joondalup Brothers 1st Grade team this year. Already had a really positive meeting with Mark Sinderberry, have also met with Bill Pulver and addressed the entire ARU staff...Had a really positive experience addressing the grade, colts and U18 players, staff and committee members recently at the Brothers as well..Contact details all over the place. dave@recoverynow.com.au if you would like to contact me, get me to speak at your club, address your coaches, however I may be of service to make sure your/our rugby fraternities are well equipped to face out modern society and be up to speed in regard to inclusion, more than happy to offer my time to help out. Cheers,Dave (Australia's first openly gay Premiership level rugby coach)

Round 9 signals the halfway point of season 2017 in the Pindan Premier Grade. Pre season favourites Palmyra have been the form team of the first half of the season notching 8 wins from 9 games to top the ladder. Perennial finalists Nedlands are once again in the hunt with 7 wins and a draw to sit second. If Nedlands continue their high level of consistency, they will surely make the finals again for i think the 34th or 34th consecutive season. Despite losing reigning PG Hampshire medalist for best player in Pindan Premier Grade Michael Ruru, promising young Force players Jermaine Ainsley and James Verity-Amm and Anaru Rangi Nedlands just keep setting the bar. Reigning Premiers Wests-Scarborough are sitting 3rd after some recent hiccups including 2 rare home losses in the last 3 games including a loss to Joondalup in Round 9. Wests cannot be counted out though as they still have some quality players and will be boosted by the return of last years Force under 20s captain Angus Taylor. Kalamunda sit 4th and are starting to gel after an influx of youth over the off season mostly in the backline with the average age of the backs only boosted by 38 yr old JT, otherwise their backline would be all under 22. Associates in 5th are also starting to gel with the influx of Future Force players and coach Steve Anderson starting to mould a team that can knock off any team. Joondalup in 6th are still only 3 years into their premier grade journey but last rounds upset win over Wests will boost their confidence going forward. With a massive junior base Joondalup can be a real power club into the future. UWA in 7th are still rebuilding following the loss af Chris Alcock, Richard Hardwick and Francois Van Wyk to Super Rugby duties. A traditional power team of the Under 20s division UWA are building towards the future with Harry Scoble leading the changing of the guard with multiple Force Under 20s players led by Aussie under 20s wing/fullback Clay Uyen and Anthony Hondros. Cottesloe are a mixed bag this year with no recruits of note. Led by Perth Spirit lock Kieran Stringer, Cottesloe look in for a tough second half of the season, throw in the fact Cottesloe are one of the smallest junior clubs in Perth and Cottesloe will probably have to open the purse strings to return to finals contention in the near future. Wanneroo and Baysie prop up the table once again both clubs are trying to rebuild with both clubs not having tasted finals action for more than 5 years now. Both clubs boast strong juniors so they have something to look forward too if they harness these juniors into coming years.

My top 4 predictions are :
1st Nedlands
2nd Palmyra
3rd Wests
4th Kalamunda

My prediction for the Grand Final : Nedlands vs Palmyra

My prediction for Premiers : Nedlands.

Nedlands to rely on their finals experience to win the Pindan Premier Grade. Palmyra have not quite been able to get the big dance over the last couple of seasons with Wests and Nedlands dominating the last 3 seasons. I think this big game inexperience may just cost them. My smoky is Kalamunda. Always a tough hard team up front and now with a young fearless backline, the brashness of youth may just take them far into the finals.

Wooden Spoon : Baysie

Unable to crack a win in 2017 yet, Baysie are enduring another tough year. 2007 was their last Premiership season and hopefully it is not anoth 10 years before this proud club rises again.
