Interesting regarding the views on Ryan. Last year I was extremely disappointed with his regression at the set piece. This year with effective specialist technical coaching Ryan is starting to show his potential and the Tahs scrum was not compromised in any game this year when the reserves came on unlike last year. That includes when Tilse replaced Robinson.

Re:- Dennis, I have never been a great fan and have a long record here of preaching that the Tahs made huge mistake signing him over Mowen. That said it would be churlish not to recognise that last year pre-injury and this year he has been is top form. Certainly better than any other lock/6 apart from Fardy and Jones.

So I don't think they are Chieka picks at all.

Who else would you replace them with?

Having watched Mogg play Club Footy on Saturday I'd agree with MCHS, Benny A's setup has definately improved under Dan Palmer's tutelage and Nic White who knows he is still the 3rd Halfback in my opinion.

Ben A's scrummaging at Super level has never been the problem. Every year I watch him at Super Level and hope that he can transfer that form to the test arena. Why doesn't it happen? Serious question. Like others I hold reservations because of the history, though there is no doubt on form he is second THP behind Kepu.

Clearly not as much as yourself judging by the amount of posts you dedicate to him and his teammates....

I like Brumbies, if ALL Australian franchises work like they, Wobs would be better. They are from a small city but can create good teams on a limited budget and can retain their best players. But the scrum is the main Wallaby problem and Ben Alexander has a lot to do with it

Ryan was poor in the scrum vis the brumbies, I need to revisit the Tahs games to see if there were more this year, but I certainly don't remember him displaying much at scrum time.

Given the squad was picked at the start of the season both Weeks and Holmes had demonstrated much more in the way of recent form than Ryan.

More like he was patchy, some good, some less so, especially when Kepu & Robinson are on one side he has been fine. The real big issues so far have been when Tilse & Ryan are finishing off a game.

To me, he is getting better and nearly a reasonable reserve THP at S14 level

It's 51 players. Like, most Aus Super Rugby players. Who cares who's in it, as the main issue is who's in the 23 when we actually have to play a Test, which is some way off.

It looks at bit like a missed opportunity in the work to fix one of our major issues, but yes, it's largely meaningless at this stage. Mostly I'm just tired of complaining about Graham and the u20s squad looks relatively considered and balanced, so this was the next cab off the rank.

There are a few shockers in there, clearly a squad that was picked before the season. Explains why Neville was picked for the Rebels on the weekend. Cheika wanted to see what he's got this year and Neville showed exactly why he hasn't been playing.

I don't know what to do for a reserve THP, Alexander hasn't been up to scratch in Test matches but no one has stuck their hand up and said pick me.
Greg Holmes was impressive on the weekend when he came on but plenty of minutes against better teams to go before he gets picked

PAE hasn't hurt his chances at THP, Neville surely has no chance of selection. Paddy Ryan needs to be exported to Japan or Europe, even when he isn't wobbling up our scrum he's giving away stupid penalties. I think It's time for a young Tah to replace him, Mike A is the only one in the squad I know of. Stirzaker deserves a spot in the 51 as well.

Yep, he was excellent.

PAE had an absolute belter against the Hurricanes. If he goes well against Slipper this week he'll become hard to ignore.

His biggest issue atm is a lack of game time and match ups against starting props to prove his worth. This weekend against slipper will be a good opportunity but if Weeks comes straight back into the starting side it might not be enough. Any word on how long Laurie is out for?
