Western Force 2020

why sign up for something that has not even been formally offered?
Yep, and there's another factor as well … not fc*king over existing partners.

It is interesting that voices in regions Formerly known as sanzaar (Fkas) are now talking about bringing PI teams into their "Super" realm.

So, who screwed over those PI brothers only a few short years ago?

… and where did their unions then sign on to play? Why, it was Rapid Rugby.

It may not be possible to restart that season, and therefore a domestic oz comp might work out. But, in the words of one old-time oz orator, you first dance with the one who brung ya.

Fiji have been in the NRC longer than they were in whatever the previous version of GRR.

Cool. Down to World Rugby, to be honest.

Bugger all from Sanzaar.

Down to RA to be honest. Ben Whittaker worked tirelessly for Fiji to enter the comp. World Rugby just paid for it.

The reference to SANZAAR is funny. First they’re criticised for expanding too recklessly and now they are criticised for not including a basket case union in their tournament.

Not at all. The problem with RA, Whitaker, the FKAS (formerly known as sanzaar) is the farkas are fickle.

Flailing and faithless, some would say their position was untenable.

Is it just me or has Twiggy been overly quiet over this whole saga, probably quite smug watching from the sidelines, and maybe waiting to see whose left standing at the end.

But the odd statement or comment would carry a lot of weight right now.

Why would he be smug? GRR (and the prior iterations) are loss making ventures.

The Force are talking with RA about the July comp. Until there is a comp, there's not much for them to announce.

I'm still to be convinced about the Moondogs actual participation. RA is putting air into that as an "immediate priority" but really it's filling air time while the real talk takes place - which is with Foxtel. Unless they agree to transmit on their air time, there's probably no comp.

From there, the questions involve logistics including quarantine. How is the cost of the Red/Reb/Brum/Tahs being met, the Sunwolves two months being met - and for that matter the Force.

Australian Associated Press (clicky):
"The participation conditions for the Force would be newly constructed as they were not part of the original Super Rugby competition," an RA spokesperson said.
"One of the immediate priorities is to ascertain the Sunwolves involvement in the competition with the current travel restrictions in place. Once this is known we will be able to confirm the final competition construct, draw and participation conditions."
The Australian (paywalled):

The Western Force may have to relocate to the eastern seaboard if they join the revamped Super Rugby competition.

There is no certainty the Force will take part in the domestic competition with Force bosses still in discussions with Rugby Australia about what the cost will be to join the domestic competition.

But if an agreement is reached with the Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest owned franchise it will most likely be based on the east coast due to the Western Australia government’s hardline COVID-19 border restrictions.
