Western Force 2021

How good to have a player as experienced as Rob Kearney in the mix.

He was excellent.

I have to say I was a little worried as he's nearly 35, has played very little rugby in the last 7-8 months, is coming to play on fast dry pitches and Super Rugby is generally faster than Pro 14/Heineken Cup.

But he looked very fit and really sharp.

He commanded the back three, communicated really well, took every high ball he was expected to (along with a few others too), kicked perfectly including that world class banana return, mopped up some bad bouncing ball in the midfield, joined the line beautifully and to top it all off lasted eighty minutes. No mean feat given the reservations above.

Plenty of cover in this area. Henry Taefu was class last year, is he just missing selection or injured? Could also start McIntyre at 10 and Lance at 12.

Very enjoyable Western Force Fan Day at WA Rugby HQ this afternoon.

Good opportunity to:
  • meet all of the player group - including the wider training group - after their normal training morning
  • spend time with all of the International players
  • meet the Coaches and support staff
  • see the CEO - Tony Lewis, Rugby Director - Matt Hodgson, Anton Zackey - Academy High Perf Manager, Rebecca Roe - Match Day Event Co-ordinator and Kyle Godwin all working hard at the Harvey Beef sausage sizzle
  • have the RugbyRoos program available for the next generation of WF players
  • see so many fans turn up to meet and greet.
Fantastic that everybody from CEO down and all of the player group were happy to be available and spend so much time with fans.

Fantastic addition to the squad.
22yo - 1.88m - 90kg - Wing/Centre

Hot news is that there's more to come!!

English speedster joins the Force

March 1, 2021

England U20’s star Jordan Olowofela has signed a one-year deal with the Western Force in a fantastic international coup for the club.

The exciting young midfielder, who can play both at centre and on the wing, joins the Force from English Premiership side Leicester Tigers, where he made his debut in the Anglo-Welsh Cup against Bath Rugby in November 2017.

Yeah now that’s a really interesting signing. Still would prefer we were bringing Aussie’s home but he’ll be one to watch.

He's a talented winger, that has lacked confidence. Tigers really hasn't been the best of environments for a attacking winger recently.
Playing like crap under Murphy and since Borthwick has come in, we are playing better rugby but currently it's more "traditional English rugby".

Seems odd from a quarantine point of view. Unless it has already passed, he wouldn't be available until the second round of the competition, which means four games plus whatever comes after that. Even then, there is little time to gel with the team. Not sure I really approve.

It seems that Jordan Olowofela is currently in quarantine in Sydney and will travel to Perth with the team after the Waratahs game.
Good timing.

He is only on-loan according to Leicester website

And if he's good enough he may even get some game time but there are others vying for those wing positions.
However, non of the others have National U20s or National squad credentials.

Seems only winners in this arrangement (including possibly Perth club rugby).

Brad Lacey? Was the starting winger for most of the Aus U20 2014 campaign. Outshone a bit by Kellaway and unfortunately neither player really kicked on. Neither did Placid for that matter. Actually, looking back on the squad, a lot of those players never really kicked on. Only four or so went on to win a significant amount of caps for Australia.

I'd have been surprised if Ralston didn't make the U20s last year had it gone ahead.
