Schoolboys
Slipper attended The Southport School on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Provincial
Slipper started the 2010 Super 14 season as a part of the Reds Academy program. He made his debut for the Reds, off the bench, in the first round loss to the Waratahs (28-30) at Suncorp Stadium. His first start for the Reds was the win over the Highlanders (38-36) in the last round of the season at Suncorp Stadium. Slipper would start 2011 as the Reds first choice tight head prop, however injury would cruelly rule him out of the last two games of the season - the semi-final v. the Blues and the grand final v. the Crusaders.
International
James Slipper was a surprise selection in the 2010 Wallaby squad having only started one game for the Reds, their last game of the season against the Highlanders. Slipper made his Wallaby debut off the bench in the 2nd test of the year, against England in Perth, and is Wallaby number 843 on the all-time Wallaby cap list.
At the 2009 John Eales Medal Awards night, Slipper won the Australian Under 20 Player of the Year award.
