Podcast 24: ‘Grass in a Desert’ with Nathan Sharpe

Gagger, Barbarian and Mr Timms have a chat with the elder statesman of Australian rugby, Western Force captain Nathan Sharpe.

Some topics we cover:

  • The inner workings of a top flight line-out – how do you decode the opposition?
  • The wearing of a cap to his 18th?
  • His goal kicking prowess
  • How he got himself back into the Wallabies and what Robbie had said to spark it
  • Bomber the dog
  • Surviving the team bus

The theme song is an oldie from Max Merritt and the Meteors: ‘Slipping Away’, a tribute to the way the Force have ended a few games this year.

Great interview, very informative on the line out.

Great talk. Sharpe was good value. Re TC debate Vs Nathan Grey – I understand what you’re saying as far as similar ‘types’ of players, but my memory (fading) of Grey was that he had a far superior passing game than Carter, although not required for the role that he played. Also thought he’d have to be quicker? Gags, you mentioned footage – any chance of putting it up to compare?? (I did a search, but couldn’t find anything – many copyright infringements).

    • Shit mate – don’t ask me to back up statements like that!

“The footage” was an old game I re-watched last year and made this video from

Unfortunately doesn’t really show what you’re looking for, maybe if TC makes it to the Wallabies I’ll get round to a comparison vid….

    Another great podcast guys.

And it’s been great to see you build on the fantastic articles/analysis you do on the website with the podcast & candid interviews with the players & coaches.

It certainly the best rugby podcast around & focuses on Australian rugby, unlike that other podcast that used to, but is now filled with too much crap about European rugby.

Keep up the good work lads & it would be great to hear Robbie or Bob Dwyer on a future podcast too if you could wangle it.

  • Play ifnoarmtvie for me, Mr. internet writer.

  • It’s the best time to make some plans for the future and it’s time to be happy. I’ve read this post and if I could I want to suggest you some interesting things or suggestions. Maybe you can write next articles referring to this article. I wish to read even more things about it!
