Podcast 254 – Shamateur W*nkers

Rugby Reg, Hugh and Matt are back to chin wag on the latest topics in Aussie rugby, from Super Rugby to Wallaby selection to the Lions tour.

The Five Burning Questions:

1. How many matches will the British & Irish Lions win on the New Zealand tour?
2. Where to now for the Waratahs?
3. Was the improved performances by the Force and Rebels a sign of better things to come?
4. Who’s going to play Hooker for the Wallabies in 2017?
5. Will the Aussie Womens Sevens team be able to bounce back and defend their title?

Hugh…in no way was Michael Hooper his “usual self” against the Kings.
Yes, he made 14 tackles and had 7 carries for 29m.
However, his ruck involvements were way below his norm.

He was averaging 23 Ruck Involvements (17 Attack/6 Defence) prior to this game.

Against the Kings his Ruck Involvements were:
12T (6A/6D) with only 3 Ruck Involvements in the 1st half (yes, he was off the field for 9 minutes).
    For the last 3 x 10 minute periods he had 0, 2 and 2.
His 2017 lowest involvements before this was 17T – 8A/6D.

    Hooper’s SR average in 2016 was 27T – 8A/10D.
    His lowest involvements in 2016 were 17T – 12A/5D.

Totally agree with your comments about Ian Prior who is a much better player than most pundits believe. He has a great head for the game. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see Prior at SH and Lance at FH – the best combination available for the Force. We will see it in the future.
Check out Ian Prior’s 2 conversions against the Kings. Opposite side lines – right through the middle. He has worked hard on this aspect of his game.
