Podcast 312 – Black Swan Event (The 2019 Rugby World Cup Preview)

It’s finally here!

The original team is back in Matt, Hugh and Rugby Reg to preview the 2019 Rugby World Cup. It’s the best game in world’s biggest tournament, there ain’t much else to say.

Warning – occasional coarse language

The Five Burning Questions:

1. How will we go at the World Cup?
2. Who will win it?
3. Which underdog will surprise?
4. Which big gun will falter?
5. Who will be the player of the tournament?

Thanks for the pod, fellas. I’m not sure why no one rates Georgia in our pool. Not saying they’ll beat Australia or Wales, but they are a chance at beating Fiji, who (as you note) could also get up against one of the first two. They’ve been ranked 12th in the world for the last few years, came 3rd in their pool at the last RWC (having stayed in touch with the All Blacks for about 60 minutes of their match [I was there – yay me!]), and have beaten Samoa the last few times they played. They did OK (not great) against Scotland in their recent home&away test series.

With Fiji ranked 9th, and a chance to beat Australia (6th), why wouldn’t Georgia then be a chance to beat Fiji? That turn of events could blow the pool wide open for 2nd spot, and I don’t see it as impossible.
