Matt Rowley September 12, 2012 13

No GravatarWe’re joined by ex-Wallaby and Narbonne Head Coach Justin Harrison, for a good yarn about French rugby, coaching, the Wallabies, making Sean Fitzpatrick uncomfortable and the truth behind the French Winger’s award.

Then G&GR’s resident guru Scott Allen joins me as we pick over a few bones from last weekend and the one to come.

And of course, THAT line-out steal

    Another cracking podslam guys.

As the coach of my 4 year old’s T-Ball team and hopefully his future rugby coach in a year or two it was great to get some insight into that aspect of it.

What age does T-Ball go to contact these days?

      • Dally M

        From the start!

Those kids fight for the right to field the ball.

    Solid podcast fella’s.

I’m baffled as to why Robbie Deans moves players into different positions quite often and doesn’t just play the best player in the country in that position.

Beale’s been a bit scratchy, we need a full back. Who’s the next best. Morahan.

I think they should’ve dropped Barnes and stuck with Beale anyway as he’s clearly a confidence player and will get better and fitter with game time.

As with AAC. He should’ve been the incumbent 13 for the last 3-4 years. Why put him to wing or fullback when we’ve got players who play those positions who are competent.

It seems that Dean’s is indecisive and that feeds down to the players.

Awesome guys! Austin explains things clearly and simply. I think Scott Allen is the anti-dingo

Who was the Wallaby who asked about Scott Allen just by way of interest?

Well done Matt and that podcast would be invaluable for any aspiring coach to listen to.

Another great podcast guys – don’t apologise for the nitty-gritty coaching talk, either.

Scott, I’d forgotten that bit about Harrison’s lineout steal – he didn’t have long to celebrate, he hit the ground pretty hard when his lifters gave way.

I’m pretty sure Harrison went against the plan by contesting that line-out – I wonder how he feels about that now as a head coach?

I really enjoyed the podslam this week. Harrison came across as a very interesting guy who obviously has some very strong beliefs. He seems to have the right mix of knowledge and humour and I hope he has success as a Head Coach.

One other thing struck me about that video- how good was Buddha Handy?

If you are going to have cheerleader commentators, then don’t muck around. You can hear the passion and emotion in Buddha’s voice- possibly the greatest cheerleader commentator of all time!

  • Si_Rangi

Very impressed with the highly articulate Harrison. What he had to say made sense in a simple easily understood way. High hopes for him in the future?
