It's certainly a puzzling appointment.
Our boys have not only embraced the concept of losing,they are excelling at it.
I'm not sure how this guy can help them do it any better.
Unless his involvement had some influence on the Saders game, if so,it was a masterclass.

I think they should provide a counselling support line to rugby supporters and players - as at this rate our clinical depression from regular defeats to nz opposition looks like a rather permanent thing at this point.

Second is anger. Fuck you Richie/Quade/Deans/Ewan/Hooper/Beale/Chieka
Then comes bargaining. If we make 5 go in to 4; everyone's 25% better!
Then Depression. We just got flogged by the Sunwolves and gave up a 29 point lead against the Crusaders.
Finally, Acceptance. Maybe those bastard Kiwi's are right and we really are just really shit at rugby.

^^^^ but I have to believe that the players have the skills if they had a strategy - and that's where good coaching comes in - they would be winning a lot more. We have the ingredients (look at Rebels player list), its up to the coach to drive success on the field.

Transfer fees exist in Europe for Football players. It would certainly help.

Transfer fees exist for those still under contract - most of oour players leave at the end of the contract, so that would need some thinking.
When would it kick in? We have plenty of players in our system that other countries would lay a claim on.

It's been discussed many times on the forum but look at the detail and I don't think it necessarily helps us much.
It encourages the poorer teams to sell their best player(s) whilst still on contract so they can spend the money on multiple players.
Teams get nothing if a player is off contract so that further encourages teams to sell players rather than letting contracts lapse.
The biggest transfer fees tend to be shared between the biggest clubs. The poorer clubs sell their best players to survive.
I don't think it does anything to level the playing field or really greatly improve the financial situation of the teams that originally signed the player.
It's not like there are vast transfer fees being paid to South American or African teams for all the quality young players that come out of those locations.

Give it another go Gnostic. I can only agree that there are flaws, but reg is still correct imo, to say there isn't much better out there on the state of affairs. It is worth the read.

We will never get complete agreement on the state of affairs amongst everyone here and what needs to change but I think Jamie's article is definitely one of the better ones on summarising current challenges - without having to agree with everything he says. Lets face it much more insightful and more to agree with than Alan Jones recent article in the Australian.

Could you enlighten us as to why you think that its not? It seems to be a genuine third tier for me, albeit not a perfect one.
It seems that the only people complaining about the NRC are from within the Sydney Shute Shield camp. Sure, it's not 100% aligned with the interests of that area, but it serves the people of: Melbourne, Perth, the ACT and Brisbane pretty well.
You don't see many complaints from those areas. Perhaps Sydney needs to become comfortable with the fact that the Shute Shield is no longer the only thing that matters domestically.

Anyone know of a rugby playing school in Sydney where there are more AFL teams than rugby teams?
In generally terms I sympathise with what he writes each Friday but, as ever, there’s some gilding of the lily when he gets going - I can sense the foam at the corners of his mouth as the truth is escorted quietly to the wings.
