Sydney Subbies 2019

Rumour Ronald

Herbert Moran (7)
Rumour Ronnie Wood. I may be an old codger but I still put the stones in Jagger's green ginger wine.

Div1 - Waves, Shams, Knobs and the dirty reds to knock off the new upstarts
Div2 - HH, Forest, Pats, Epping
Div3 - Brothers (if they travel), Ag to bounce back, Newport and Blacktown
Div4 - Merrylands, Irish, Briars and I'll take Cantebury but only because they are the home side
Div5 - Burra, Lice, Lions
Div6 - Raptors, Savers, Covies

I'll do well this week

Anyway, my div 3 tips for the week:

Redfield v Brothers - Not sure who's travelling or how we're lining up yet this week.. the joys of playing for Brothers. Until such time I will lower my expectations. Probably tipping the Newport, Blacktown away form at this stage, however we could also just as easily win this by 20 depending on who turns up. Whether the Redfield 9 is back or still out is a massive factor. Redfield by 30.

HAC v Iggies - Interesting one here. Hopefully Mr Olympia and the Ralph Lauren brigade don't get lost on their way out to Richmond. HAC will be hurting after an unexpected loss on Saturday and I think Iggies will cop it this week. HAC by 14.

Valley v Newport - Going to tip an upset here.. Valley are due and this is a very winnable game for them. They'll be up for it and this will be a true test of Newport's travelling. I believe they're trying to improve their road record and have a bus for every away game however jury is still out.. Valley seem to really be missing their old hard headed 1's captain and number 8 who has been their best player for years. Might be time to give fat Adam Reynolds a shot in the top grade. Valley by 2.

Blacktown V Beecroft - Real clash of styles here and should be a tight one again. will go with Blacktown at home to be a bit too physical for the manbuns. Btown by 10.

Would it change your tip if Breakers were at home, which they are. Apparently they bombed 6 tries against Beecroft including inexplicably 3 dropped balls over the line.

You are quite right, I've buggered that up.. Yeah Newport will win by plenty.

I wonder if Rumour Ronald would have tipped the now flourishing HeavyD/HeavyB relationship?

I reckon he might have... he is that good

He ain't heavy.... he's my brother. Plus I now seem to be fighting battles on other fronts.

What part of the Hawkesbury region do you live in by the way ValleyGirl?

The "Valley" part obviously champ.

Mr. Ronald, If there were DM's... I would

Div 1
WAVES vs Colleagues - A determined and more physical Waverley to dominate Colleagues whom are still mourning the loss of Kerryn Phelps as their local member.
Petersham vs MOSMAN - Whales to win
KNOX vs Balmain - KNOBs to record their 1st win of the year over the neutered wolves.
DRUMMOYNE vs Mountains - MOTR - Dirty Reds might be to fresh after last weeks 70-0 training run for Mountains who had a harder task against KNOBs.

DIV 2
HH vs Bobs - Will go against my gut and take HH at Boronia over Bobs.
FOREST - Lindfield - At home in front of the Forest faithful the Hillbillies will be too strong for old soldier.
ST PATS vs unsw - PATS by plenty
Epping vs HILLS - Rams to just fall short for the 2nd week in a row.

DIV 3
ROBS vs Brothers - Will go with ROBS based on heat wave forecast and fitness levels. Brothers capable of upset but need to see consistency of team sheet.
HAC - Iggies - HAC to bounce back in a close one.
NEWPORT - HV - Breakers should win and win well.
BLACKTOWN vs Beecroft - At home they should be too big for Beecroft.

Cloudy and 23C at 3pm in Dural tomorrow. Not exactly a scorcher, although I agree with your theory, we're unfit as fuck. Based on the team sheet I give us a massive chance.

After a fairly lacklustre start Div 3 is hotting up. Standard is still pretty average but it looks as though most of the teams could argue they have a realistic chance of making the semi's. Brothers pipped at the post in 1s as well as fielding a 3s away. Looks like we played them at the right time.

Scored 5 tries to 4 but lost because we couldn't kick a goal. Just 1 would have done it. Most frustrating loss ever... also up 25-12 and blew it.

I would expect (and kind of hope tbh) that we won't be fielding too many more away 3rd grade sides. For the sake of the club and out of respect for the lower grade players, I'd much rather cop shit from subbies than force blokes to play multiple games.

Our 1's team looks settled for the rest of the year and I'm very confident we are capable of beating every team on our day if we play well enough. Hopefully we can sneak into finals. Will need to kick goals though. 3 competition points went begging Saturday. It was the same reason we missed finals last year.

Our 2's have also showed a lot more over recent weeks and are definitely not far away from a win.

I must say, much preferring the unpredictability of Div 3 vs last year. 4-5 clubs that can win on their day. HAC admittedly not the same as last year but the same can be said of BOBS in Div 2, that look to be missing most of their key players vs Hunters Hill. My conclusion...Div 3 is weaker than last year but far more interesting! and Bobs team last year much stronger than the showing this year.

I'm not sure I agree that div 3 is weaker. Yes, HAC are much weaker and BOBs went up when I'm not sure it was warranted. I didn't rate BOBs that highly to be honest.

I always use Valley as the yardstick as I believe their team changes the least. The fact they made semis last year and will struggle to win a game this year says a lot to me. I think Redfield, Newport, and Iggies in particular have all improved on last year.

True! I think you can add your squad to that mix too and Blacktown replacing the friendly Saints. Either way, makes for a much more interesting Comp!

I am hearing that Rumour Ronald pulled on the boots for a cameo last weekend. How did you pull up Ronnie?

Gotta say I was curious how Blacktown would go this year, having to support an extra team in Colts - so far you have to be at least mildly impressed - top of the table in First Grade, equal 4th in Reserves, and equal third in Colts. That is a pretty fair effort.

You would assume they'll dispose of HAC then take the long weekend to do a big prep for Redfield - that game should be a very interesting clash. If we hadn't organised a Halligan game (we have the bye) I'd get along and watch it.
