Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

Latrell coming over looking like a possibility. Agree with the previous posts he switches off at times but he’s damn near the most talented player in either code. If he and Petaia were in the Wallaby backline together it’d be an incredible prospect.
Don’t watch much league but he is probably worth a look. He at least appears to not likely to cause any trouble by extreme views (re: Folau) or reputation of past bad behaviour. Or have I missed something.

And what evidence is there that he is a rugby talent?

Folau was supposed to be a spectacle. Lot of good that did us.

And again, why can't he get a big deal in league if he is such good value?

Folau was a success on the field but not off the field.

Just reading up on sort of money offered by easts and rejected means too much money for too much risk for RA to likely consider him

Timana Tahu has been quoted as saying he would be suited to our game. One strength he has, apparently, is that he can kick. That would put him ahead of 95% of our backs.

Something not smelling right here. He seems like such a good prospect, so why aren't league clubs interested in him?

I fear there is some behaviour issues behind the scene's we don't know about.

Folau was worth 300k. Maybe. He had no rugby nous as a fullback and couldn't kick. Any positive publicity or new eyeballs associated with him clearly didn't last that long.

The wallabies were 47 percent with folau in the side. No, it's not entirely his doing, but it's hardly an endorsement either.

I could go on to say I disagree but after the social media storm he obviously was worth negative value to rugby - particularly if he succeeds in his court case or gets a large settlement agreed. Hence probably best to not mention he who should not be named

There’s plenty of evidence that he’ll be a rugby talent, many of the skills are transferable from League to Union. Hence, the success of Semi Radradra and Koroibete in the WC.

Right or wrong, his indigenous roots would hold some value as well as far as RA are concerned, especially to an organisation so desperate to prove it represents a demographic of Australians besides the private school boy. The Indigenous jersey was hugely successful, but you can bet some questions will be raised when the likes of Beale is no longer in the team to market it, especially since there is only a handful of other indigenous players in the code in Australia.

100%. Having another marquee Indigenous player post Beale can only help RA’s brand.

So why can Mitchell get an NRL deal? Given that he is such a superstar and a known quantity in that sport?

He was offered deals from the Tigers and Roosters that were rescinded given he looked at other options after that. North Queensland and South Sydney are also looking at making an offer. It’s not like he was off-contract and can’t find anywhere to go.

Because of what his manager is asking for and the way he mentally crumbled in the state of origin, and the question marks over his attitude.

Again, the most naturally gifted outside back of either code, but red flags exist over his off-field agenda

Bad attitude, big asking price, never played the game before, fails to perform in the big matches? Sign him!

Read what’s actually been said rather then jumping to these kinds of conclusions please, no one has said sign him, just discussed his flaws and potential.

It's stupid, though. Even without the question marks, it'll take him at least two seasons to learn the game. Probably more than that before he is able to play centre capably against the tier 1 test sides. Then at some point we can't keep a Ben Mowen because there's no money in the till, whilst we pay this guy 900k. Then, fed up with the role that backs actually play in rugby, he does a Sam Burgess / SBW and goes back to his first love (or the NFL, then back to his first love) when his contract is up.

Tahu was a superstar in league and was lost at sea playing test rugby. Burgess the same. Benji Marhsall? Released after 6 matches. The only non winger to make an impact that didn't have a rugby pedigree was SBW and the NZRU had the benefit of him learning the trade in France for 2 years.

There's so much more to playing well in the centres than just being "a talent", especially when defending.

Lattrell is potentially the most ideal candidate for a swap of all the converts when you consider his age, size, running ability + handling kicking.

He is a young Inglis that can also kick.

The only reason he can’t get a contract is because of attitude stuff and the fact that his price tag is so justifiably high.

The counter to this is that if he wasn’t not having any dramas, then AR wouldn’t be a shot.

Worth consideration.

Initial thoughts 12/13 but I think he might be a devastating fullback.
