What about Foxtel NOW/GO subscribers? This is also a streaming service.

Way better than the satellite/terrestrial box.

Lots of people who normally go to the club, pub or RSL to watch pay TV games may not be doing so ATM.

Yeh, that was my plan. I rang the pub and they said they couldn't let any more in. Hence back to streaming

For sure. A large proportion of rugby supporters have/had Foxtel purely for the purpose of watching rugby. Many have now gone to the streaming versions, much more streamlined and cheaper. My guess would be at least 50%

Can somebody tell me what the broadcast figures were 6 years ago for oz super rugby - I just think it is criminal RA let such a dramatic decline happen without addressing this as now just got a few rusted on and ex pat kiwis left following rugby and keeping their Foxtel subscriptions

It is going to be a hard slog to win back fans from here - and I only hope somehow working with twiggy, private equity, world rugby and anyone else who can help us get out of this hole. This is pretty dire.

Bloody criminal - I remember 30k crowds at tahs games as well

We have had just years of RA running down the product. The narcissism and Pyrrhic victories of the off season all have there roll. The rusted on have in places rusted through.

I know several fans not interested, and watching things like NFL. The numbers are not imo surprising. If anything inevitability stands out.

Its a good thing. Take your laptop and a HDMI cord and plug into a big TV anywhere you go

Serious question - how do the set top boxes that monitor the viewers work if someone is switching back and forth between channels? Or one game ends and then they switch over to another after it finishes, which is half way through? Asking for a friend!

They apparently report every few seconds and the ratings work on peaks and averages so I think you could be counted as watching two shows in the same time slot if you were switching back and forth between two things.

I don't know what the threshold for the percentage of a show watched is for it to count as you having watched it.

Haven't seen an official figure for Sky Stadium yesterday but 20K+ was mentioned in commentary & there did look to be good numbers in most areas. NLP was sold out Saturday night.

Article in The Australian is claiming that including Kayo/Foxtel Now the Tahs/Reds game had 95k viewership (69k without Kayo/Foxtel). That's over one third increase if you include Kayo/Foxtel Now.

This is very interesting.

Just noticed a tweet from sports industry which might give an indication of a Kayo audience.

It's relating to an AFL game, but no reason why this wouldn't work this across the board.

It says the Carlton vs Western Bulldogs game got the highest rating for the round on STV of 325k (quoting some article), which included Kayo.

BUT

The actual Fox rating was publicly released as 218k, meaning we might be able to surmise that Kayo was 107k (or one third of the the total ratings).

This means each time we see a Fox rating for a game, can probably pump it up by 50% to get a truer indication of the actual eyes watching.
