Reds 2021

i'd like to see Stewart taking the first receiver role at times, to see if that early/original idea of him playing at 10 has any merit with a season or two of Super Rugby under his belt. I say this in light of McKellar's comments regarding letting players develop rather than expecting them to be fully formed pro's straight out of school.
you only need to look at the bloke currently wearing 10 to see how players can change and adapt as they mature.

This just seems a weird comment to me. Stewart steps in to first receiver heaps - every single game.

Paisami can't do what Stewart does at 12, and with JOC (James O'Connor) at 10 Stewart is a better mix by far.

We also need to be building the next-gen 10. Whoever that is needs to take the 23 jumper to build experience as we go forward. JOC (James O'Connor) surely needs a back up beyond Stewart.

The Brumbies seem to have about 5 of the next gen

Carter Gordon is our absolute flyhalf for the next decade. If anything I would put Stewart at 10 now and move JOC (James O'Connor) to 12. Petaia would kill it at fullback.

Plus Stewart has had his stint of being shuffled around. He is playing his best footy this year and 12 suits his skill set. By all means he should continue to have to earn his spot and he may have to provide injury cover to other spots from time to time, but he never looked as good at 10 as he has at 12.

It’s not a bad situation to have when we are trying to fit everyone into a backline on paper, but we need the sort of depth where guys like Paisami/Stewart/CFS are fighting for starting roles.

Hey I wasn't trying to be aggressive, but yeah, now it's said you'll see it more. or call me out! :p

Nah all good. I’m a terrible ball watcher when I watch games -
Hardly notice some players - Real tunnel vision.

It’s only if I get time to watch a replay that I can sit back and notice individuals

Is does too. This would be a monumental fuck up from the Reds. Somehow I don’t think this is right as I was only talking to Thorn 2 weeks ago about the kid.

EDIT: Fake news. Nothing mentioned anywhere.

He has definitely signed with the Rebels for 2021 & 2022 - heard the news from Wests Bulldogs and that's why he will playing for them this weekend... Huge loss for the Reds.

Full season of qpr and he was the form 10 in my opinion.

I tend to side with roberts_rugby though.
I can’t wait to see his first hit out in super rugby. (Hopefully it’s not with the rebels)

Wasn't he injured for a number of matches last year? Look don't get me wrong I think he is a good player to but flyhalf for the next 10 years on an untested player is a big call.

Seems right. Just another Queensland flyhalf the Rebels continue to sign.

I suggest that JOC (James O'Connor)'s formative years were actually 2012-2013, so you need to thank Melbourne for your flyhalf. Why can't you be like us in Melbourne with a homegrown flyhalf like To'omua? His cousin's gf's dogwalker texted me that Matt learnt all the skills of the trade as a kid living in Melbourne.
