didn't Uruguay knock Fiji off at the RWC? Maybe it's just that they are pretty decent.
Yep. But the loss isn't that surprising. Los Teros has traditionally always had the wood over the Eagles in Montevideo. The Eagles have never traveled well. Which should be a concern for Gary Gold seeing that they will have to run the North/South gauntlet again against Chile.

And Slar help their growth. But not sure seeing eagles benefit from mlr so far. 125k registered rugby players in USA but still punching bit below their weight. But yes with growth and expansion of rugby and mlr should hopefully see improvements in eagles in years to come.

Bit off topic but Canada missing the next RWC is disappointing but not surprising. They really need to have teams as a part of the MLR.

I watched Between Two Posts tonight on Stan (really enjoyable, it’s simple but good fun) and I was pretty interested to hear the update on the World Cup 2027 pitch from guest Georgina Robinson. Sounds like the bid team are a bit disappointed that they haven’t as yet been able to secure the ‘preferred bidder’ status they were gunning for while they were in London.

Also interesting to hear her mention RA have Twiggy over there and involved too.

I’ve been watching the glory days ones and they’re pretty interesting and enjoyable

I was laughing a lot during the recent Drew Mitchell-Ben Robinson ep particularly. I really like the format, I hope they stick to it as with a bit of polish it’ll keep getting better.

I did not know the following [the bold bit is interesting, and I wonder who pays] but leaving aside the question of who pays.

This is if nothing else brave, I guess the reason is so they have control over who they sell to at what price.

Could or should rugby do the same. The NFL [gridiron] in the US do the same as does Baseball I think.

Copied from a much larger article.

The crucial difference this year is the fact that production of the broadcast of all A-Leagues games is being undertaken by us as the A-Leagues, in partnership with 10 – a major departure for the coverage of Australian sport. This has the advantage of us, as football people, taking on more responsibility for the delivery of our football product. But it does come with some risk especially in this first year as we put together new partnerships and build new skills.

I think this was discussed on this thread when the 9/Stan deal was being thrashed out. It seems like all the networks primarily use an external contractor to produce the broadcast, so it's really a matter of who pays that contractor - the league or the broadcaster. It's not like the A-League is buying cameras and editing suites.

I reckon if you have a good partnership with the broadcaster - and it seems that RA and Stan are getting on well - then it's a whole lot simpler to let the broadcaster manage broadcasting. But you are relying on that good relationship.

Particularly when the broadcaster is investing a lot of tech in terms of providing the viewer with a really positive experience.

Off topic to this issue, but in line with the thread, I note that Dan McKeller's family are moving back to Brisbane, with him to follow once he finishes up with the Brumbies on 27 May.

With Rennie, Taylor and du Plessis all in QLD (on the Gold Coast) and Wisemantle I assume at Lennox, I wonder if that means the new Ballymore High Performance Centre will be more of a base for the Wallabies

Exactly right, it’s just a transfer of risk and cost from one to another, and with the right relationship this isn’t such an issue. Problem is when one starts cutting costs on the other.

NBL were the first code in Australia to take the lead on production, and apparently ALeague has copied them.

Off topic but the facility was supposed to break ground last month, still no approval on the MID application through the QLD Government.
