Wallabies 2023

Wallaby Man

Trevor Allan (34)
Why?? I think he looked good. Two errors at the back, one of which was exacerbated but poor support around him but I thought he looked mostly fine.
I just don’t think he’s offering anything Lolesio currently can’t offer. Plus his record at 10 is abysmal. As I said he wasn’t bad but didn’t offer anything either, I’d rather put the younger guy in that would offer the same.

An argument for experience would be direction on the field but there wasn’t much of that going on, admittedly White was equally at fault for decision making not controlling the pace of the game.

The forwards decide who wins, so they say. That was not far from being our best possible pack, except of course for hooker. Or maybe the old adage is wrong?
It is an unquestionable statement about RU, you can't win without the ball going forward. That's why they are called bloody forwards!
The other difficult to break statement is "Lose the breakdown, Lose the game' I think you could apply that one today as well.

JOC (James O'Connor) was fine, I'd pick him again... If we dumped everyone that had a bad game in this one not many left in the squad. I think JOC (James O'Connor) showed enough for another gig

EDIT: I'd drop Simone and put Leoliso on the bench

Another Wallabies mediocre season as all the last decade.

A win against England, 2 defeats
A win against Argentina, then a slaughter

So let me guess the rest of the results:

3 losses and 1 win against NZ and SA. Maybe a narrow victory in the new Sydney stadium, that's all.

2022 EOTY:

SCOT: L
FRA: L
ITA: W
IRE: L
WAL: W

And I don't know if they are gonna face Japan

I've been positive most of the decade. Not after a 2/5 records against your weakets rivals so far. An England in low light after a poor 6 Nations performance and the Pumas at 9th in WR (World Rugby) rankings.

You didn't lose against Hansen's ABs or 2019 Springboks World Champions

Some times you have to call a spade a spade. I agree with you, Rennie was billed as the saviour and we haven’t improved

I do think we have improved because by the end of 2019 we were absolute trash. It’s more an indication of how ordinary we were that even some improvement still isn’t good enough to compete with the top tier. Most teams would sign up to play the 2019 wallabies if they have the choice of 2022 or 2019

I agree. He was fine. Tupou , Arnold, Holloway and Wtight were underwhelming,
much more than JOC (James O'Connor). Valentini and Slipper were very good though no one elsr stood out

We are still losing to second tier teams. Last night was absolure trash. I know there were a bunch of injuries, but it was really hard to watch that performance

At full strength and with mind on the job we aren’t far off it - that was Australia A plus a few this morning, and most of those already on the plane out of there by the looks of it!

It certainly wasn’t a game to showcase and I hope Rennie wields the axe accordingly at the next team selection.

Wields the Axe on who? Are we selecting players from 2nd Grade Subbies now? Who is left?

You can blame this one on the injury ward but a winless 2021 Spring tour and a win record many times lower than what Cheik got absolutely torn about Rennie might just not be the answer.
As an aside what the hell is Renniie doing at training? If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge Ardie Savea? there are some crazy amount of head knocks.
Sincerely,
A severely frustrate me.

There will be a few back by the sounds of it, but without them for starters I’d be telling Rory thanks but no thanks and give Phillip his spot back, and swap Wright out for the much more reliable hodge. And something needs to be done about putting third and fourth choice Brumbies hookers into the national team, I appreciate the circumstances in this case, and I’m not doubting their potential, but now is not their time.

wallabies are a second tier team these days.

We’re becoming the Scotland of the Southern Hemisphere
The 2000s Scotland, the current Scottish side is strong and didn't get smash by the Argies in Argentina without key players like Finn Russell and Stuart Hogg

If you take our RWC performances (which always flatter the stats as there are easy games and its basically 1 game and your out, so the win %age gets boosted), Chek has a winning percentage of 44.64%. Rennie's is currently 40%. So not 'many times lower'

My comment was in partly in jest, Scotland wouldn’t have won if they were missing between 10&15 of the match-day squad like the Wallabies were. But I still think Wallabies should have won that.

We need to make sure we at least finish second or third in the rugby championship if we finish last it would be disastrous

Koro will start. I suppose Kellaway is locked in. Petaia is one of our best up and comers. If anybody should come in sooner rather than later I would argue that it would have to be Vunivalu. I know things are different in club rugby, but Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) was sensational yesterday for Eastwood in the Shute Shield.
Mmmmmmm, agree with you that Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) may become a option in the not to distant future. He came along in leaps and bounds for the Tahs this year, under the high ball, defensively and position play. As much as I love koro, given the way the game is played these days with 'bombs away' our best back three could well be Pataia, Vunivalu and Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) with Kellaway on the bench. All of them are very good under the high ball and have pace to burn. Except for Kellaway they lack experience though. The players are so fit and conditioned these days that there is limited space for length of the field tries due to defensive patterns. World rugby will never do this but I think they should widen the rugby field by two meters each side to give teams more space so the game starts to open up a bit more. I have always thought that Wright would be better closer in at say 12 with a bigger body hard running 13 outside of him (Kerevi, Perese, Ikatai). I believe Wright played 10 at Joeys so could be a playmaker with lots of pace and vision. As far as the 10 goes, not sure of the answer if Cooper isn't available. Of the young ones I think Donaldson is the one with the most potential. He has a massive boot, has deceptive pace and is a good distributer. Lolesio is a good super rugby player but seems to lack the pace required to get through a gap. A 10 that can make a break is essential if White is half because out of the three No 9's (Gordon, McDermitt and White) White is the least likely to make a break from the base of the scrum/ruck. At least one of the nine and 10 needs the vison, pace and skill to get through a half gap to keep the opposition on there toes and guessing otherwise play can become one dimensional and predictable. Cooper has or had it in spades, Donaldson I believe has potential.
