I know it’s not quite the same but do we all remember the Brisbane 10s?

You mean the pre-season training competition that was run in the middle of February in Brisbane where the temps were so hot that the organisers had to ship misting fans in and allow everyone on the eastern stand to move to the western one.

Somehow you can then compare that to an autumn day where temps top out in the mid 20's in the middle of a season.

I've got no idea about the Sydney and Melb bars next to the stadiums, but people pop out between games to Caxton St or Paddington for a feed and or non light beers. It's a true event and has a massive atmosphere around the entire area.

Super Round this year was the 5th March so hardly different. I grant you temps were shocking but been from Brisbane there was little to no interest from the rugby community to attend before they knew the weather. My point was there isn’t a desire for it anywhere.

As for bars, the Melbourne precinct is the best in the country, Swan st is across the road and contains more pubs/bars than Caxton and the city is even closer with trams and a train station across the road.

Caxton St in Brisbane has a similar intangible link to rugby league that Ballymore does for rugby fans. Lots of memories were made there.

Buses driving down there before origin, the bar being frequented by Bronco's and QLD greats etc.

That will always be a draw card for hosting Magic Round in Brisbane and I do agree that link doesn't exist within the rugby community to the same extent.

And this isn't a one off. This happens every single weekend. Though I do think it's not indicative of the actual odds. Why are Reds such firm favourites and Rebels and Drua are more favoured than their 3%.

Yeah It’s not odds, it’s how fans have tipped. Which is almost worse and highlights why no one is watching attending, because the fan perspective is the results are a forgone conclusion

Just like Hamish McLennan uses the Australian as his unofficial mouthpiece Paul Cully is the unofficial mouthpiece for the NZR and the respective NZ super teams. There is clearly a play for power going on behind the scenes. In the past few weeks we have had numerous articles stating Hamish is doing an amazing job, Marinos exit was obvious as he wasn’t on the same page as Super Rugby teams and the entirety of the RA board. Then we are getting polar opposite articles from Cully and Stuff etc. how he needs simmer and stop been a disruption to rugby.

It seems some major moves going on in the background and everyone scratching for power on both sides. Who’s the good guys and bad guys in this is dependent on which bias you lean towards.

Yeah I dunno. I kinda reckon part of the reason journalism is so trash these days is because people refuse to pay for it (including me).

The games are fun to be at with such a mix of fans but the fun of the whole thing came from the buzz around the city. Getting breakfast and seeing fans everywhere, going from breakfast straight to a bar full of fans then you slowly make your way into the ground watch some footy then walk straight out bar into the bars and everybody is on the same page.

Fun to be at? Every year it is drunk bogans punching on in the crowd

Wonder did anyone else watch last week's rugby heaven? First time I have seen it this season, was interested the discussion and seeming dismissal of ideas of drafts etc for suerp, and even Hoiles comments on why he not really fussed about allowing NZ players in Aus teams.

Well all 3 on panel thought draft was almost impossible to happen and would probably need an incredible amount of work including legal stuff. On moving players aroung as Hoiles said making it so ABs could play for Aus teams wouldn't work anyway and I see his point. Are someone like Force etc going to be a real good team because they had an AB or 2 playing for them. As he says with the injury rate the problem with it is you probably lose one of them through injury and the trouble is not enough depth to cover injuries, and his is old anser too many Aus teams. Of course the other thing when everyone says something like AB players should be able to play for Aus teams and would be great seeing DMac or someone in Tahs/Reds etc bcaklines, they forget that they also may see Wallabies going to play in NZ and really wouldn't make any difference at all. It's not the top echelon of players that are problem, Aus have a reasonable number of them, it's below that, where players can already move where they want anyway.
Just thought it was interesting hearing the discussion anyway.
