Ok WHAT is the actual list. What significant coaches finished up post WC or would be a good get or could step up. - could be assistant options.

Billy Millard
Cheika
Mckellar
Larkham
Les Kiss (prior to Reds appointment)

Ass.
Peter Hewat
Matt Cockbain
Julian Salvi (Super Rugby assistant more likely)

No doubt Cheika and Eddie were the top aussie coaches and no longer on the block. Rennie was a good foreign option and was canned. Robbie wasn't treated much better

Any Friend is back in Aus after 5 years at Connacht.

I could imagine that you could probably get Mr Cotter to break his Blues contract as well if you were so inclined. Not that I particularly like him as an individual or think that he'd be the right choice for the WOBs (Japan is probably the team that would suit his... motivational? style and selection policies best) but he is an international caliber coach hanging around.

Since Berrick seemed to be given a blessed run into a role I would also add Daniel Halangahu as an outside chance who has been with the Blues for a few years.

I'd prefer he came back to an Aus side and did the same role for a couple of years though.

Find a great club coach that is willing to break contract to coach a national team that has a proven record of winning.

O'Gara
Blackadder
Ludeke
McKellar

all won titles

Larkham has a decent record
same with MIllard

not having a crack but Kiss doesn't have a much better record than say Coleman or Cronn

High performance Director - Friend (knows Nucifora's Irish system pretty well, and I'm assuming Link and Nuci couldn't be convinced to take it)

Wallabies Head Coach - McKellar
Forwards and set piece - Lord Laurie (out of retirement for 2 yrs until 2025)
Attack - Jim McKay
Defense - Toutai Kefu?

What has Blackadder or McKellar won?

In complete seriousness, you could do worse than bringing Dan Parks in as a kicking consultant for the young group of domestic playmakers. Say what you will about his ability at everything else in the game of rugby, but his kicking, be it place, drop or tactical, is as probably as good as any Aus playmaker in the post Larkham era.

I wouldn't see any of Kiss, Cron or Coleman in the mix at the moment. They all need a few years more at Super level to prove themselves. Bernie has the best record and more experience, but I don't want to see him as the whipping boy for all the disappointed Wallaby fans.

Whomever is the chosen one, I would definitely consider Brad Thorn as one of his Assistants. We need to harden the f**k up and he is one tough hombre who could put some much needed backbone into our team.

These last few pages really highlight the issue with coaching pathways in this country.

For a nation who considers themselves 'Tier 1' we realistically don't have a pool of local coaches who could unequivocally be the right man for the job for the Wallabies.
