That's the dude. Names and places allude me now. This is why we really do need some in-the-know school students who can raise their game to the level we ask. The more and better they are, the more informed us elder statesmen become.

Pretty sure that they have been training at the school ground for many weeks but have only just resumed at the bridge playing fields
I've heard this but was told that this was an elaborate ruse conducted by coaches to fool other schools into thinking they needed more than a couple weeks to repeat the glory of last year's prem.

Speculating positional aspects is fine just not entire teams.

Ok then, to keep the students active, respond to the following.

Name your schools following.
Potential Best forward
Potential Best back

Make your your nominations can be traced back to high grade team and not one of your mates

I will start, I nominate Ghattas (Hooker) and Gough (fullback) for Joeys.
I too am a somewhat elder statesman but I think the season promises great things for several prospects in the Sydney Church of England Grammar School (SHORE) regime.

Dominic Jarret (3) has seen a meteoric rise in recent years. I've personally never seen a scrum machine move as fast and as formidably as last tuesday, after training when young Dom decided to give it a push. A quick interview told me all I needed to know: This titan has put in the hours in the gym and on the field over summer to achieve greatness.

As for my back pick, I'd have to say that Digby Hockey (11) would be a daunting challenge to chase down on the field. He's a ferocious bloke both on the footy pitch and on the athletics track, ripping through lines of defense so fast I wouldn't blame the opposition for giving up in chase - even in my glory days I wouldn't have stood a chance.

I've Heard that there are a lot of boys from the u16 age group from both barker and Joeys playing in the first and seconds teams. Anyone know if the 16s age group for either sides will look as strong as they were last year

School Following here is Newington.

Forward that you nee to look out for would have to be Dylan Simmions with a tremendous year last yea gaining selection in GPS 2, NSW schools 2 and now Waratahs u18 academy. He will be a tremendous player for Newington this year.

Backs would nee to be Bailey ROBERTS-LINTMEIJER. A start for Newington 2XV last year with also playing in the Aussie 7s winning team. Also then winning the u18 open 100m last year running a sub 11 seconds. Has be a real dark horse for GPS 1st.

For Newington where does Scheck fall on the talent list? He was a problem on the park for NSW U18s in the recent games. That's a big human who found space.

I think another country boy from the central west Bede Clout will be the standout forward for the boys from the bridge and the fullback Callaghan is absolutely electric and will cement his reputation as one of the best in the competition!

Couldn't agree more regarding Clout, definitely one of the scariest blokes in sydney at the moment. A throbbing pick from yourself, Mr Observer.
I agree with your notes on Callaghan, but I will say that Joker asked for biggest potential - Callaghan has already proven himself to be one of the most entertaining and powerful players to watch in both the AAGPS as well as outside contracts.

Got out to Joeys this morning for a funeral of a friend.
At the service there were several current students who helped bolster the singing.
After the service a couple of lads (who wish to not have a shout out) said trials were throwing up names not thought of.
It seems the off-season hard work and plenty of mum's meatloaf have created a couple of real bolters.

NON GPS news is that I had a quick catch up with Wallaby Tom Wright as well (I coached him in the NSWCIS team)
He said it is not out of the realm of possibility that Tristan Reilly may get a Wallaby call up. Joe boys at 15,14 and 11.
He is most impressed with him and Jorgo who he reckons is getting better all the time.

Joeys backs were impressive today despit losing to Barker 41/29. Coaches rang in the changes in the second half with lots of lads getting a run.

My colleague at the game said the Barker forwards were bigger and drilled. That said the Joeys forwards are good on their own feeds, and will trouble a lot of teams. On a dry track their backs will be hot.

Solid team but their forward pack could be a weakness for them this season. On the other hand looking like a strong 2s to team they have there.

A few players from the ‘25 16’s
I am surprised aren’t on the Joeys team list like the second rower Abe (I think) and 10 -Pat Smith who played games in the 2’s last year.

Did anyone seem to catch the name of Joeys number 11 he was outstanding today crossing the line three times and also setting one up. After that performance The Gps really should be scared as Joeys have an upcoming superstar!!!

After spectating the Joeys VS Barker trial game today, here is a breif summary of the matches:

2ND XV:

Joeys 2ND XV looked solid taking home a convincing win over Barker. Boasting a full new squad, with no returning players, Joeys, had plenty of contributors from the ever successful 2024 U16. The forward pack was dominant, and the backline was all class as they ran riot on their opposition.

BEST:

1. Bryn Whittaker:
Having played his first game back since rowing, Whittaker looked solid all game, tackling fiercely and running the ball with great intent, leading to plenty of post contact metres. Despite his small frame, Whittaker's effort was paramount, and earned a run on in the 1st XV in the second half.

2. Finn Leary:
Showing his versatility, Leary proved he play Flanker, as well as his dominant position last year, hooker. His strength in his defense and offense was on full display, earning him solid minutes in the 1sts.

3. Sam Jorgensen:
Hardly stepped a foot wrong all game, Jorgenson showed he can set up tries with simple and sophisticated passes, as well as his usual aggression when running the ball. Jorgenson was impossible to tackle, making a break every time he ran it.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

Rory O'Connor looked strong, moving well and a good clearance kick. Year 10 Finn Hannon also looked solid leading an opens team, scoring a simple support try in the first half. Henry Gardiner was great early as per, as he made linebreak after linebreak showing his speed and strength, terrorising his opposition winger.

IN THE FIRING LINE:

No one as of yet.

1STS XV:

Joeys just weren't good enough today in their close loss to Barker in a 29-38 scoreline. Despite the fight shown from the young guns in the second half with some impressive performances, it was the senior players who dissapointed, particularly early, as joeys were getting dominated in the first half, even with ALMOST their full strength team, missing only Tom Dunn, who at this point isn't even a lock on the wing. Unfortunately for Joeys, Cooper Green, second row, went down with a foot concern early in the first half, stripping Joeys of his lineout talent and overall size in the forward pack that for the most part struggled today.

BEST:

1. Kynan Hart:
Kynan being a senior player in the side, returning for his 3rd year, was one of the only senior Joeys boys that showed up today. Hart was impressive, with his ball running posing a major threat to his opposition centres, who after tackle attempts, were left on their backside. hart defense for the most part was solid as well.

2. Julian Minto:
Scoring 3 tries and setting up one as a year 10, Minto provided offensive spark for the cerise and blue, displaying his electrying pace and fancy footwork, leaving defenders in his path. Minto held his width well and was on the end of two Bede Fogarty cross field kicks, to go over, including one where he caught the ball, put on a mesmorising step, and scored in the corner. Minto also had a strong defensive presence putting on a big hit late in the game.

3. Bede Fogarty:
Fogarty had plenty of offensive output today, assisting 3 tries, as well as showcasing his pace, passing, footwork and footskills, factors that are going to see him be a major threat throughout the season. His cross field kick to Minto in the first half was, no exaggeration, perfect, as well as an offload to Beckectt to see him go over. He should hold his head up high, great performance.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
Year 10 Eddie Garcia Wood, was solid, and didnt look phased in the older age group. Captain Justice T was also solid, but not up to his highest standards.

IN THE FIRING LINE:
The Joeys Lineout struggled today as there main man Green went down in the first half.
Charlie Ghattas was not up to his usual best, however the best hooker in the GPS, was off the back of an injury in the hip and was pushing through the pain.
The likes of Max Palmisani and Matthew Gough, returning players from last years 1st XV were quiet today, and will be no doubt looking to return to their brilliant best after the holiday break.
Henry Troy getting a yellow card did not help his case for a wing spot in the 1sts, but when on the field, Troy was sharp, displaying his speed and agility that he showcased last year in the 1s and 2s.
