I think Nudgee have to be the favourites based on the trials alone. Anyone have any scoreline predictions for the matchups this week?

I would think Nudgee to be favourites, closely followed by BBC.

Highly agree with this, whilst Nudgee seem to not be cut from the same cloth as the other schools, BBC will without a doubt be up for a bit of hard yakka against this strong outfit. Similairly, when the Nudgee boys journey up the range without a doubt the Toowoombians will be keen to display some of their toughness, believe their motto this year has been centered around the concept of 'mana'. Dont mind this for those boys at all, cant wait to indulge in the upcoming season.

Hard to disagree based on trial form, albeit that is not always a guide with lots of combinations being tried out.
Nudgee will be hard to dislodge from the top

Sounds like a pretty sturdy ladder, cant wait to spin a yard on the sideline and watch some bone shaking hits and ball tearing runs this season.

This seems like a pretty good prediction. For this weekend’s matchups what are we thinking? I’ll go first.
Opening the batting for this weekend is BSHS vs NC at Fursden Road.
Give me NC they are the comp favourites and will start the season flying, but I can see State High keeping it competitive, especially with them at home. And with rain on the forecast for Friday, I can see the Statey surface being very unstable. But Nudgee will be too good. 34-20 to the boys from Boondall.
Next up on the chop is ACGS vs TSS at Churchie.
As much as TSS are probably one of the best teams in the comp based on talent alone with probably the best back and forward in Kingsly Uys and Killarney Lavender I really don’t like what I’ve seen from them. They look like they were just told “go run and score tries and don’t let the other team score.” No instruction, no real structure, and they are too reliant on their superstars. As much as Churchie don’t look like they’re up to standard this year, I can see them winning this match. They’re a pretty well-drilled side with some talent in that squad, and since their 2nds look like one of the best in the comp, I can see them having a pretty decent bench which Southport do not have. So here’s my upset: 34-30 to the Churchie boys.
Next matchup I’d like to take a look at is GT vs IGS at the Internationals Field.
Both teams this year are looking pretty solid I’d say they’re both middle-to-bottom of the ladder and have some pretty decent players. I just don’t think either school has it in them to push up the ladder this year, so I think this matchup will be really tight an absolute gladiators’ battle considering the wet conditions. From the fixture between the schools, GT should be the favourites however, that was with GT’s star ten Clifford. I think his loss has really hurt them and they’ll struggle with their creativity in the backs, even with Hales still pulling the strings. I can see Terrace being right there, maybe even leading going into the half, but I can’t see them beating IGS over the full 70 they just don’t have any depth. That’s why I see IGS taking the choccies with a 19-7 win.
I’d just like to include the trial in this list as I can see Downlands knocking a school this year but I don’t think it will be BGS.
Grammar look like a real dark horse this year. They’ve been in every single one of their trial matches BBC only beat them by a point, they were done by a try to Nudgee and a try to TSS, drew with TGS. They are knocking on the door with the big dogs, so I think they’ll be a good team this year. So even with a pretty rested XV, I can see them beating the DC boys pretty easy. 45-12 BGS.
I’ve saved the best for last TGS vs BBC up the Ranges.
Two contenders for the Premiership in Round One. This match will be interesting and will probably shape the rest of the season for both schools. TGS are strong, BBC are strong but who is stronger? This is such a hard match to predict. I know BBC beat TGS in the very first trial, but I don’t think we can judge them on that. BBC may have have Kefu out, which is a huge blow he brings a lot of creativity and skill to the backline, which they’ll miss. And TGS fully fit, at home, the altitude, the cold, the home crowd (which is bloody good sometimes) I think that could get them over the line. 19-18 for the boys from Woomba (but I can see it going the other way as well to BBC).

Nudgee looked very dominant for the most part vs State High. Surprised to see how bad their lineouts were though because Nudgee usually have very good lineouts but today it didnt look like they could string one together.

34-19, BBC run out of ammunition. TGS run them to pieces really.
Their line outs were not consistent like previous years. A little scrappy. Won’t see that again next week.
