Hadn't thought of it that way. ROTFLMFAO.

The fine for advancing over the 1/2 way line would be $10000 well spent I reckon. Better than Suzie the Waitress even.

We might even score a try against the Bloody Darkness if that happened.

Shades of Indiana Jones in the Swordfight. Draw the pistol and shoot the focker:)

ok thanks, but even that story mentioned about a final decision being expected later this week.

As far as I know in traditional Polynesian culture, the Haka and other war dances are always performed as a challenge/counter challenge exercise, and sometimes counter-counter challenge and so on.

The "away team" is expected to respond in kind to the "home team" challenge otherwise the "away team" loses mana(? - respect/face) in the eyes of the "home team".

Standing up to the haka and challenging it "manfully" shows that you are on the "battlefield" to do the business.

Any Maori or PI culture experts on the threads care to comment.

stuff.co.nz is running a poll and the question is:

Should France be fined for their haka challenge?

Yes - they crossed the line.
No - it's a legitimate response.

At the moment, there are around 8,900 votes and about 82% say 'No'. Us Kiwi's actually love to see other teams take up the challenge I reckon. I hope the French don't get fined.

Someone must of thought it was a bad idea. I thought it had to be a kiwi. Anyone know why the fine came about.

I thought it was interesting that one of those commentators thought the penalty count was at least 2-1. I've read somewhere that it was actually 10-7. To me that shows the commentator wasn't watching the game as a neutral.

I also didn't think the comparison between the Read offside and the French back offside were correct. Read pulled out didn't attempt the tackle, the French back didn't get back onside (imo) and then attempted the tackle.

That Kaino one was a definite penalty to France though. Have to say I breathed a sigh of relief at that non-decision. :)

Yes, you're correct on all points there HJ.

A counter-haka/cibi/sipitau is warranted and to be expected in the battlefield. It means that both parties have shown up for the day to knock the bells of each other with only the strong left standing.

In fact, most of us generally want the opposing teams to do it...that's why France gets all the brownies for doing that march up (instead of their normal retreat)...kudos to them.

and a big FOOK YOU to the IRB if they do fine the French team...such a bullshit rule in my view.

Not V fair: France fined for standing up to haka
October 25, 2011 - 2:39PM

The French team has been fined £10,000 ($15,370) because its action breaches an International Rugby Board regulation on how the haka should be faced, introduced after previous confrontations.

Just more International Rubbish and Bullshit from the IRB

Pathetic. Anyone would think that the IRB is presiding over 14yr old kids from juvenile detention centres!!

Pisses me off for so many reasons.

Finally a Northern team stands up to face the haka with big balls and the IRB cuts them off.

Now I know that just aint right.

FFFFS Everyone just loved it!
