So your coach has zero say in his squad? Nice.

Yeah I agree with qwerty51. Graham has been floating around Brissy for months now.

Sure, he'd have limited influence on the squad as a whole (which has barely changed since from 2012 to 2013) but something like the EPS is thrown together pretty late in the piece, I'm sure they let him have a seat at the big boy conversation table.

You would have to be off your head to think that the player recruitment system is run in totalitarian/dictator like fashion as all the coaches would have to work with these players and would get some input. Its not like link sits by himself and chooses what players he wants and chooses his team off his own bat without any advice.
Also TOCC I don't understand your logic in that RG a current assistant coach and next years head coach would get no say in the matter but Pat Richards who is not associated with the reds would have input?

I think that's right so maybe he should be cut some slack.

You cannot be serious? He didnt play in 2011 didnt play up to scratch in 2012 so we sign him again on a his legend? As one of the best schoolboys around? I don't think he eve rplayed Australian schools? So he is living on a reputation that seems unwarranted

Thats because I never said that...

RG and Link obviously are the key players in player recruitment as retention..

I was purely pointing out that Pat Richards opinion could have carried weight as well since he coached QLD XV in 2011 and QLD A in 2012, in which case most of those competing for EPS positions and academy positions played/selected(including the aforementioned UJ).

*movie voice over* mean while earlier that day..........

RG is 'a' coach.. Not 'the' coach

Regardless, wasn't part of Links new responsibilities related to player recruitment/retention and identification?

and.....

Also, I'd say having the likes of Pat Richards involved at the QRU had played a big part in those East players been chosen. Pat has been used as a representative coach a number of times for City/QLD teams

Seems like you did say that.....but in anycase the major point is that UJ needs to stand and deliver. As it stand he an EPS player and should have been called up as heir apparent in the great flyhalf crisis of 2012 yet Link drafted 3 people ahead of him........makes you wonder his value then

I'm totally serious. He is still a teenager who didn't get to play in his last year of school due to injury, but was still selected in the EPS because of potential recognised by some good judges (Link et al).

It remains to be seen whether he fulfils his early promise, but I definitely think he can be given another chance on the basis of the year that he missed and his relative youth. Remember too that he originally hails from South Australia, hardly an established rugby environment, so how much real rugby experience has he had?

Regardless of whether he succeeds or not in the long run, there are many stories of unfulfilled promise that have preceded him, as there are about players who have broken through with increased maturity....so, yeah, I think he should be cut some slack for the time being.

Odds are that they consider UJ Seuteni a work in progress.

Putting him in the EPS at age 17, they clearly wouldn't have been expecting him to play Super Rugby last year. If they'd ditched him now it would have been a waste of time.

I'd be guessing that he'll get an EPS contract in 2014 as well.

Everything you have said is true but at the same time does nothing more than prove the fact that he should be in the wider training squad rather than EPS. Why waste a role on a player who once when they were 16 looked good playing in a terrible set up compared to someone like Taumata, Everson and Saifoloi who have been above average to stand outs at all levels UJ has not plaid or struggled at......seems to me like we are looking at lloyd johanson 2.0

At the moment everything you and anyone else has said points to the fact he deserves a development spot not a contract where he might end up having to play.

Seems like you did say that....

No I didn't...

I suggested that Links new roles under the restructure place a greater emphasis on recruitment and retention.. At no point did I say neither him or RG are redundant in that role..

Are you going to tell me that the opinion of the QLD XV QLD A coach in 2011/2012 wouldn't have an influence on those selected for the Reds EPS?

They would ask him his thoughts yet in the end he and RG are easts people.....so i am stuggling to guess your angle here?? Are you trying to back up my arguement?

Maybe but they did give CFS a cap straight out of school

Guess my angle? This isn't a political debate...

We were discussing the input for which coaches had into player recruitment and identified Pat Richards as another who would have had a valid opinion on the subject..

You went off on a tangent from there insinuating I had said RG and Link had no input on selection...

Anyway.. Rule 10 this crap

The most off the mark and smartest thing you have said in one post

I'm guessing that he will have to put some runs on the board in 2013 to warrant another year in the EPS setup, even if it just means killing it at Premier level as another stage in his development. He'll probably also get another crack at Under 20's, so plenty of chances for him to reward the faith shown.
