Very surprised about none for Mowen. I reckon he'd be Australia's second best after Genia.

I'm surprised he hasn't got a couple of votes but I think the G&GR MOTM points aren't very representative of how he's fared on the whole.

There has been a huge clamour on this forum for his selection and I think strong performances from a new player are viewed better than similar performances from a more experienced player.

Whilst he got lots of MOTM votes here in the second test, a second look at the game and deeper analysis and you realise that he gave away three or four penalties and his involvement outside of the lineout wasn't massive.

I'm certainly surprised that JOC (James O'Connor) got a vote but I'm probably most surprised that Moore hasn't polled a single vote.

As I said to Cully on twitter: hacks like backs. And have a very poor understanding of how rugby actually works.

In any case:

Great post. Mind if I ignore it?

Be my guest. I'll continue to watch your ramblings with amusement. Feel free to ask for tips on how to look this good.

you know what might be interesting thing to try>
have an initial vote> then a second vote option that is only to be voted on upon after watching a replay> im sure we we could rely upon the honor code for this and it would be interesting to see if there are any differences>> as you describe above a second viewing is often much more informed as theres less emotion and booze involved

Adam Jones is hard done by I think as is Ben Mowen and maybe Hooper too. I think North and Halfpenny probably have a few votes too many, as do JOC (James O'Connor) and Sexton.
Horwill should have some votes as well. He has been very busy and effective in both games.

In considering penalties you have to consider when, where and why they were given. One of Mowen's penalties saved a five (probably 7) pointer and Robinson's last penalty ensured the kick was being taken from the Lion's half. The GG&R analysis said it was as if they said we are going to give a penalty sooner or later so better here.

The point being that three or four penalties might not be all bad.

I put the slipper into the journos about these 'man of the match' votes as much as anyone.

Then I spent some time in the press box.

You are watching the game, but also trying to pen an article at the same time. So inevitably you have one eye on the rugby a lot of the time, and one eye on what you are knocking up.

Then a '3-2-1' slip is placed in front of you, and in the next two minutes you rack your brains thinking of who has played well. It's bloody hard, and I admit I get it wrong quite frequently. Who you think played well in real time often only did a few flashy things, while the grunt men go un-noticed until you watch the replay.

You don't have the luxury of TV replays for a lot of it, let alone Foxtel IQ.

So I have to say that MoTM voting is a LOT harder than it seems.

I think given the likely gameplan it would be Cuthbert, but it would be nice to see BOD come off the bench and make the tackle on George Smith as he gets meat in the corner on the siren to win the game series for the Men in Gold, and they both bow out gracefully from International Rugby.

How good is it that it's a decider tomorrow night!

Has made this week heaps more exciting!

Come on Wallabies! Let's have none of that shit you served up against Ireland in Auckland in 2011! This time, smash that SOB!

I'd guess somewhere between 30 and 50% Wallabies fans based on last week.

It will sound like it is 20% Wallabies fans vs 80% Lions fans.

The problem we face is that everyone in the stadium not wearing gold or red is probably a Wallabies fan.

apparently 30K Lions fans which means 55K Wallabies fans.....but I'm not sure how anyone would know that!!

Lots of discussion about the problems of the Wallaby bench. On reflection, the biggest potential problem for the Wallabies is if Moore is injured. I don't even want to think about what could happen - surely Smith can't cover that option as well?;)

I'm very surprised the Lions dropped BOD. The backlash out of Ireland has been unbelievable. We may get support from the Irish now.

My missus' Irish relatives are on facebook asking her how waltzing matilda goes! To say they are annoyed is an understatement.

Really? There's still Sean O'Brien, Jonathon Sexton and Tommy Bowe starting, Conor Murray on the bench as well.

Wallabies should drop Fainga'a and Phipps off the bench because they've lost if they have to go on anyway.

Moore and Mowen have been very good according to Scott Allen and I trust his deep analysis over the hacks.

You would almost be tempted to put Gill on the Bench.

Does the 3 bench fatties have to be specialists or just capable of safely indulging in the front row dark arts at scrum time?

Squeaky will last the 80, or we are cactus anyway. Why not take a risk with the bench and get some extra loosie cover?
