But the problem was we played too laterally after our forwards got beaten up front....

They were just shoveling the ball from side to side without any full back or blindside winger coming into the line and changing the angle. It was actually Lealifanos pass to AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) on a different angle that got the clean break, not Toomuas.
To'omua was solid but he just passed the ball to the next player out 99% of the time. He lacks the vision to see what will happen a couple of phases down the line and to be able to get the ball where we want it(i.e. Folau) or change the direction of the play. I was surprised that QC (Quade Cooper) was not introduced to the game at half time. When he came on there were inside balls and changes of direction that were getting us over the gain line repeatedly.
I would like to see him start next week.

Wholesale changes are not required but there are a couple of positions where a change would instantly make us better.

Wholesale changes are not required but there are a couple of positions where a change would instantly make us better.

  1. Start Fardy with MMM on the bench.
  2. Put Folau to 15 so he can actually get some touches and Honeybadger up against Savea.
  3. Bring Cooper on after 45-50 minutes.
The rest of the required improvement has to come from:
  1. Better forward play, in particular aggression and ACCURACY at the ruck.
  2. Genia told he must clear the ruck immediately to give the backs time and space. Backs must realign quickly or else!
  3. Using Folau and the blind side winger as a variant to shovelling it along.
  4. Everyone has to back up the breaks. What's the point of making more linebreaks if no one backs them up.
  5. Use JOC (James O'Connor) to take restarts once Cooper is on.
Be prepared for a much better NZ performance next week. Some of the NZ play was bad, if not dire. Their coaches will be livid about some aspects of their play and there will be a substantial improvement next week.

JOC (James O'Connor) made one horror defensive lapse early and that was it. Mccaw try not his fault, broken phase play he was where he was in the defensive line, have none of you c..... ever played Rugby before??Most of 2nd half he was fullback.

And To'omua produced exactly what he produced for the Brumbies all year, shovelling the ball on and kicks down the throat, what did you expect?

If Quade is not to be 10, put Lilo there,he took ball first receiver in 2nd half once or twice, attacked line and created doubt,he did that all last year till his injury(at 10) for the Brums and was outstanding.

LILO and Godwin 10-12 going forward for me(unless Quade can cut out some errors, best passer of the football I have ever seen)

Watch the game.

We are really missing Palu, Higgers and even Timani. We need a big ball runner.
So who is the answer?
MMM was just not up to it and struggled from the kickoff. I guess the only options are to bring in McCalman at 8 or bring in someone at 6. Who else if not Fardy?
Anyone will improve our pack by a considerable margin. Unfortunately we do not have a big wrecking ball type player to call on.

and the thing is we had 60% of the ball.stop blaming the pigs.
They weren't great but in the past Australian Rugbys thing was we had the backs to win a game with 40% ball and it was true,I grew up watching that.
1 week in but Jim McKay who Bob Dwyer rates needs to pull his finger out.and get the Badger in there..

We do in Fatu but he is out after shoulder surgery.

Higginbotham is surely being missed right now as he brings a lot to a team. Does anyone have any idea when he is due back? I am assuming at this stage he is gone for TRC but may be ok for the EOYT.

Maybe you're right. But maybe I don't want JOC (James O'Connor) there because he simply doesn't deserve to be

Nailed it in one, I thought with To'omua's passing game it really helped get it out to our danger men in mid field, wouldn't hurt with some inside passes and support play though. Would like to see a sneaky inside ball to Izzy every now and then as well.

My only criticism is that he was a bit deep a few times. Otherwise a fine game. I Liked Quade when he came on as well.

McCalman at 8, Mowen at 6 is fine with me. And a backrow focus that gets them to rucks and mauls fast enough to free the ball up from McCaw.

The wrecking ball at this level is something of a myth. Quick ball.

Thanks coach. Knowledge translation can be a problem.

I think that aspects of your theme are being addressed already, Link has had a pretty good go at selecting on form.

Sorry McCalman is a joke.
Biggest leaner on rucks I have ever seen.and not real big.and not very good.
We lack a number 8 and have done for a long time.Meant to be a gifted athlete or a hard man.and big. (Reid,Picamoles,Zinzan,Gavin,Dallaglio,)
Long long time since we've had a good one but I would rather have Dick Brown than Mcalman.which is not saying much but we don't have one.

Is that 'Standard Tell The Aussies What's Wrong With Them Post' number one or two? If you read the thread first, you can edit out the stuff that makes you look silly, like the jibe about the reffing.
