There will be a current Premier grade ref doing the firsts GT v NC game. The significance of the game as a possible premiership decider is well understood by the QRRA.
In my opinion forfeiting a 15 A game because of Rep commitments makes a mockery of GPS schoolboy rugby. Nudgee should run out the best team they can put on the field and accept whatever result they get. Ludicrous

The decision would seem to have Gledhill's fingerprints all over it, his team has lost 2 games already and his ego probably couldn't handle another regardless of the circumstances.

Could you imagine BBC with Lolo this year? Wow.

Barker and Philpotts must be seriously pissed that he left regardless of the circumstances. With him at 6 and Bronson at 8, Bowyer 10 and Russell at 12 they would have been nearly impossible to beat.

What I find ludicrous is that rep trials or whatever they are were put on a Saturday during the GPS season. Piss poor planning.

I think you'll find Terrace - Nudgee gets a fairly high calibre referee every year, considering the 100+ years of acrimony between the schools, significance of the game, size of the crowd, old boys reliving their youth etc

Don't disagree the timing is poor for the GPS competition.

Having said that it is the Schools U15 State Champs and runs from Thursday to Sunday.

I had heard NC have had some injuries in the 15As including a nasty one from the bus crash in central australia a few weeks ago.

Still no reason not to suck it up and play like most other schools are. I understand IGS have 11 in the Met West team! Wonder what they will do.

Terrace nudgee is sacred to both schools. Neither would want a b team running out to an a team

The Under 15 Queensland Championships is universally considered one of the best representative tournaments with GPS and AIC players split up across the teams with matches evenly contested and a number of teams contesting the title.

It is a bit rich and rather narrow minded to attack the organisation of this tournament when it is being played at the same time as usual. It is the GPS headmasters who have moved their competition on top of it. This situation is entirely of their making.

The downlands game should be a highlight of the GPS calendar like it used to be. Nothing better than a trip up the range too. Id love to hear some current downlands students voice their opinions on this.

Totally agree Big Game. I loved playing Downlands regardless of their "competition status". It was a game no First XV ever dared take lightly and enjoyed playing. Dare I say it - "this wouldn't have happened in my day."

From what I can gather the 2013 Downlands team is back at a level to more than match other First XV teams.

As suggested by JMC07, I think there is a significant amount of disrespect by the GPS schools who are not playing their First XV teams against Downlands. The matches between Downlands and GPS schools date back to the late 1940's and this is a tradition worth preserving. The Downlands First XV players work as hard as any other player in the competition and deserve their chance to play other First XV teams.

Finally, I have to ask, is this schoolboys competition becoming too "professional" if teams need a rest during an 8 game competition. Is it any wonder that Colts coaches in Premier Grade Clubs report that players out of the GPS competition struggle to deal with the 20+ game competition when they leave school.

NC 14A's have only got 2 new players this year but are very well coached and drilled as you would expect. A lot of last years 13A's are not in the A's this year. It is indeed correct that they gave GT a good touch up at Tennyson in the trials by about 30 points or so. GT scored their only points right on the bell. They play to a great structure and their set piece is excellent. Expect a big game this week though with GT coming off a loss. NC have IGS away and TGS at home to finish after this week.

15A's are struggling at the moment with a few injuries and the fact that they are not the biggest in the comp anymore which is what they relied upon to a great extent.

The Nudgee 14a's are well coach in terms of pattern but not technical... Information coming from a friend who son is at Nudgee. But your totally wrong about the 2 new players ...there are some players who played A's last year and didn't preform but have stepped up and changed positions ... 2 players were injuried for all of the session ...toupu and horswell..!! And there best player from my source was in year 7 last year at the college and is new to the team... Maybe the Nudgee 14a's will have the same results as there 15'a s next year. Big at 14 but not at 15???

Is Gledhill the coach just rang my informant from Nudgee and the coach is a young inexperienced coach who is a teacher at the college and is being assisted by Gledhill ... ??? I think most gps a teams in the comp have two coaches .. BBC do

And Gunter at 6! I have it on good authority Lolo was going to be captain as well.

Undefeated BBC 15 A have 7 boys in Met west and 2 in Peninsular teams -but the match WILL go ahead as an A match so the undefeated status is on the line.

I'd argue it is lunacy that they moved rugby to third term to begin with. Every other competition in the country runs parallel to the trials and it doesn't make sense to move them for the sake of QLD GPS. I just wonder how long it will take the headmasters to realise that they made a mistake, then again it's only in the first year so there are bound to be mishaps. The main driving force in QLD schoolboys rugby, Stephen Philpotts, is a smart man so part of me believes that it was made for the right reasons.

so correct. As has been said on this thread many times Phillpotts is a gentleman & a brilliant coach.Even the Kiwis were singing his praises after the sensational multiple phase rugby the Aussie schoolboys played in NZ last year.No one but he has won back to back series against NZ schools.

I saw him at Tennyson on Saturday with his little red note book and I peered over his shoulder -and this is what I saw:

"GT-numbers 7!(a star)! and 13.
BBC number 12-
need selectors hook-up""

For clarification, I was talking about 2 new kids to the school, #8 and #13 are the new kids to the school in the A's.
Quite a few of the A team from last year are playing in the B's this year, some have stepped up from the B's from last year to the A's this year.

Anyone from GT know when Kyle leofa is back? is he a chance to play nudgee this weekend?

Yes i was wondering that too. He could provide some much need size in the GT pack against a fairly big team like nudgee. Although in saying that, BBC had a big pack and GT coped quite well. Any GT poster's know the situation with Leofa?

Yes from what I heard the BBC 12 played well, my spies tell me that the GT 12 was not out played by him & pulled some off the biggest hits seen at Tennyson for a long time. The GT midfield was fairly solid.

Hey Digby I don't think the number is 7 in the BBC 15A in Met West. Maybe 5.

Given your insight into the BBC 1st XV, what do you think is the cause of them having such poor lineout results.

First time post here - Nudgee U15A have forfeited game v GT this weekend. Why? - Approx 9 players at Met North trials same day. Sorry but school and schoolmates come first. There are now 21 young men (inc GT lads) without a game because 9 are pursuing a personal advancement. Is this the same mindset program that has given us James O'Connor et al.

I do not have a direct connection to Nudgee or the U15's but have a life long Nudgee mate whose son has been talking this game v GT all year and will now be in his blazer for the day. He is shattered.

Here is an idea. Promote the young men from the B's to fill the void left by those choosing to play in another jersey. I reckon they would have a real crack and probably enjoy a rugby experience they may not have the opportunity to have again at school.

This is wrong Nudgee. It is only Tuesday, the game is Saturday. Make this right.
