Good to see it all officially coming together. Looking forward to seeing the teams logos and kits when they're released.

Not sure how the Randwick/Easts/Country deal is going to go though.

Calling it now:

I think the nsw country bid will fold the minute the money behind it leaves. As opposed to other teams who have a more organic structure and therefore ability to sustain themselves.

Sydney Stars is the shittest name. Tackly, uninspired and artificial; aka everything that was wrong with the original ARC.

Just call the team Balmain-Sydney Uni or something like that.

Are Easts and Randwick part of the NSW Country team?

they're not included in the Press release:

Teams to compete in the 2014 season are:
• Brisbane City (QRU/Reds)
• Queensland Country (QRU/Reds)
• North Harbour Rays (Manly, Warringah, Gordon and Norths)
• Sydney Stars (Sydney University and Balmain)
• Greater Sydney Rams (West Harbour, Penrith, Parramatta, Eastwood and Southern Districts)
• NSW Country
• University of Canberra Vikings (ACT Rugby/Brumbies, University of Canberra and Tuggeranong Vikings)
• Melbourne Rising (VRU/Rebels)
• Perth Spirit (Rugby WA/Force)

EDIT: just saw this on FoxSports:

“And in a wonderful development for rugby a NSW Country team … both Easts and Randwick will have an association with the NSW Country team who will actually be based out of Moore Park

I know this has probably been noted ad nauseam in the development of the competition, but why does QLD only have two teams?

The next exciting development will be the allocation of players to the teams. That should keep this forum enthralled for the next little while :D

I wonder how many country players will move to Randwick or Easts next year ???

Tranquility I'd say QLD has only 2 teams because of the lack of bickering and in-fighting causing difficulty in parties merging interests. That and the Clubs have left it to the QRU to manage.

As a QLD'er, I think 2 teams is more than adequate. For the competition to reach ITM/Currie Cup standard, the concentration of talent is right.

Personally I hope the Quota system merely prevents any warehousing and keeps players generally located where they already are.

I would like to applaud all involved including the ARU.
Getting to this point would have been no small effort.
I like the wide mix of interests that have been brought together and really pleased with the involvement of Qld & NSW Country teams. The Mungos have slaughtered their game in NSW country and at least this will do something for Rugby in those towns.
I reckon the Comp will be interesting and maybe even popular although I don't underestimate the challenge in getting people to attend games.
Sure there is a lot more work to do however so far, so good.

Very interested to find out ticket prices, merch prices, even memberships.

Exciting, but so much detail to obtain first. Looking forward to it!

Rams have been pushing for a colts comp since day one. Not sure its a goer from the ARU's head.

good news is on facebook they're talking about expanding as quickly as is viable and if need be as well. I know people talk about how it mightn't be viable etc but it means there's aspirations coming from the ARU and that's a good thing.

I think because that's all the backing they could get. None of the clubs wanted to shell out the money so the QRU is effectively backing both teams and couldn't take on anymore.
