Having now watched most school's 1st XV twice this season I reckon they will finish the season in the following order:
Newington will take out the premiership and remain undefeated.
Scots to finish 2nd
Joeys
Riverview
Kings
Shore

Only Scots have the capacity to upset the Newington juggernaut. New are just too big and strong.

Interesting you say that after they very nearly got beaten by Joeys last week. Round two is where the action is.

The only real consistent team over the past few years is Scots. And they've been beaten. I'd say it is still open at the top.
I hope you are right. I would love a couple of upsets that would bring Scots and Joeys back into premiership contention.

Newington are very beatable. The second half of today's game was 2 tries a piece. If only Shore could have back the first 6 minutes of today's game where they let in 3 tries and played like they did in the second half.

No excuses, they were well beaten by a better team. new definitely tired and Shore started to dominate in the forwards. Tip - New will get beaten more than once.

What a cracking day to play, and to watch, Rugby! The brightest of blue skies, full sunshine and 20+ degrees, there was no Torvill & Dean'ing to be had at 3:15pm. 'Picture perfect' at Bellevue Hill for Scots hosting Riverview...

At kick-off, Scots' own version of "Sky-lab", Ryan McCauley (5), jumps, secures the pill 10 feet in the air, and hostilities are underway.

In that very first movement, McCauley's effort finds Dylan Woods (2) steaming right, who finds time and space for a gallop upfield, and wraps a sweet ball inside to effervescent Scots No.1 (Todd), who opens the scoring within minute 1. Conversion misses, but that start must've shocked the visitors, who'd warmed up behind the City-end like they were there to play.

Scots settle in to their playing rhythm - they ruck it up, keep it tight in the forwards, pause, spread it wide, gain metres, ruck it up (McCauley (5), Charlie Smith (7) and Max Girdler (6) being "everywhere", and Strang (9) spreading it wide with authority), ... repeat, etc - and Scots end up with a score out wide with their winger Strath Yeo (14).

McCauley (5) comes in as a new kicker! and kicks one of the few conversions of the afternoon, even on such a benign day. Scots now up 12-3 , and then 12-6 after another McGregor penalty goal.

Despite the early tries against them, View are competing well. Their lineout is good thanks to the tall timber of Michael Fenn (5) and Jack Todhunter (4), but they aren't seeing that much of the ball inside the first 'Qtr'.

Scots forwards are taking control at the breakdown, and Max Girdler (6) is going all Honey Badger - "Up the guts, and into 'em!" - and it's paying dividends with metres gained.

Strang (9) nails a cut-out pass to Jarrod Cullen (15) running hard down the right, scarpering up-field before passing inboard to Dylan McLachlan (10) who scores and McCauley converts again.

With 20' done, the wrecking-ball Girdler (6) dummies and charges, and the pill ends up in the ubiquitous Charlie Smith's (7) hands. Try-time and McCauley pops it over again, like another great kicking second-rower/lock, John Eales, eye-balling the action from the sidelines at BH. Scots are up 26-6.

Scots look like they have View's measure here... It's been a rollicking first period for the young men in Gold, but this is schoolboy Rugby, so it rarely goes quite to script!

Yeo (14) goes off with an injury; Nick Shannon (playing with a full game already dusted in the 2nds) goes in, and there's a shuffle at the back..

Of Greater concern, Scots has forgotten to bring their baggies along today, and that at a home game! (Situation rectified into H2, but still...). View's bass drum dominates the early musical interludes, even if their team didn't on the scoreboard. (Dark mutterings are heard from the faithful gathering deep behind the in-goal...!)

Like all good milk, cream does indeed rise to the top, and with 10' to go in H1, View's best, Jack McGregor (10), takes a broken play bounce-pass with soft hands and finds big Bill Terry (13) lurking further wide to score down the left edge. A miss on the conv leaves the score at 26-11 at oranges.

In H2, Nick Zylstra (Scots No. 3) is providing a solidity in the scrum that was absent for Scots in the earliest Round of this year's comp, and gives Scots a platform to execute from.

On a Scots feed, View leaves their blindside open. Strang (9) from the scrum-base darts down the vacant left, and egged on by Charlie Smith (7), "banana-kicks" infield ahead for Smith to regather and score at the City-end with a smile that was the width of the Harbour Bridge! Scots ahead 31-11.

Strang (9) then goes for a tap'n go dart from a penalty tap, catches the View D napping just a bit, but it's enough, and so close to the line, Strang is in. The conversion "yips" continue, but Scots now lead quite comfortably 36-11.

With Theo Strang (9) off with a yellow, View takes full advantage, and through their edgy replacement right wing No.16, the pill goes through the hands all the way back to the left, and winds up with Tom O'Reilly (11) who scores in the corner. Conversion misses (again!), and Scots lead 36-16.

But View is now seeing puh-lenty of the ball, and they are asking questions of the Scots' D. The momentum has shifted. It's a game in 4x Qtrs - Scots, then View, Scots, then View, somewhat as predicted by some for a close one.

View score again down in the left hand corner from a broad sweep instigated by McGregor (10), but not converted. Scots 36-21.

And deep into extra time, another quality View backline movement is ended by their erstwhile No. 8, Chris Scott going over, or at least I think it was him from way down the other end of the ground where I was standing! Hope it was as he had a gutsy game, but Scots stay up 36-26, and time is up.

The final score probably flattered the visitors a bit, but they didn't stop trying to the final whistle, so kudos to the boys in the blue and white for playing it out hard, all the way to the end. I suspect that Scots may be a bit filthy about their late "capitulation", and it was quite a subdued version of "Auld Lang Syne" to be heard after the final whistle.

Best on Ground (for mine):
Scots: Strang (9), Girdler (6), Zylstra (3) and Smith (7).
Riverview: McGregor (10), Fenn (5), and O'Reilly (11) with limited opportunities.

So third round 3 results were Shore 22 v Kings 21, Grammar 10 v Scots 7, Joeys 61 v High 0, TAS 26 v View 5. We now have 5 teams on 4 points - SJ, Scots, TAS, Grammar and Shore. SJ is the only undefeated side with 2 wins. Prognostications anyone?

Nice write up, Mr C Jack. Sounds a bit similar to Shore and New. Some fast early points scored.

Looks like Cameron Fazzari played down in the 3rds again. Surprised he didn't score a try though he's a monster!

I guess that confirms it - he wasn't playing 3rds purely to counter Grammar the week before, he's been conclusively dropped. And I re-iterate, if a GPS representative prop can only cut it in a Joeys 3rds team, their depth must be pretty incredible.

Eddy King's in a similar boat, a two-year Joeys first XV veteran will be returning from injury soon. Will this mean he'll play 3rds as well? 2nds?

Shore vs Kings and Grammar vs Scots sounded like thrillers. Armidale seem like a bit of a wild card at the moment, will definitely be interesting to see how they fare against Kings, Grammar, but most importantly Joeys.

Does anybody know who scored the first Joeys try v Kings ??

I was changing my camera lens at the kick-off and looked up too late - and I forgot to ask the Joeys' bench.

The paper said it was Yirrbi Jaffer-Williams but I didn't notice him in the area afterwards and supposed it was the other winger on the wrong side.

YJW is of aborigine heritage, if that helps.

Anybody know ??

Edit - it was the other winger, Blaise Barnes - the paper got it wrong.
