Cheers mate!

Looking at the new 3rd/4th grade comp...what a complete joke lol ....what a great way to destroy club culture and act club rugby/support. Where are the 2nd grade benchers coming from? Colts only? Going to be plenty of forfeights in that comp this yr.

I suppose there is a couple of ways to look at this. A comp with 14 rounds is not as good as a comp with 18 rounds. From what I can see the JID clubs play the Monaro teams 7 times. In that 7 times on 3 occasions all the JID clubs have byes in their 1,2 & colts on those days. Some JID clubs will have their 1s 2s & colts playing at home on the same day that Monaro teams come to play their 3s & 4s. The draw does pose some challenges when your 3 s & 4s are playing a different JID club to your 1,2&colts but it is within the ACT boundaries. I honestly believe that the Monaro teams will have a lot more to contend with from the JID clubs than the JID clubs may have with the discomfort from the draw.

I do understand where your coming from - and honestly agree - I just don't think its the right move really - the Monaro Comp is a strong Comp and the ACT Comp prob needs abit of a bolster but def nothing "wrong with it" - let's see how it plays out - maybe it will work, maybe it wont - It will show the teams that are more driven to win though with the extra travel and also the impact of not being able to support the 1st grade sides on occasions...

On another note - heard there is a Trial this Saturday - Vikings V Whites at Viking Park - can't really find any details around this though...guessing a Colts Trial and then a combined squad 2nd's/1st's Trial?

Looks like Qbn have been recruiting some good players (besides there Brumbies allocated players) - players such as Nela Moa, Lani Tiatia (think he came into the squad last year, but may of been injured part of the season?) and David Akkersdyk (David who I believe has played for the Brumbies Provincial side the last few years) - this could be one of the strongest Queanbeyan sides we have seen in awhile...

With all the loses the Vikings have had over the off-season could prove to be a very interesting season indeed - of course Vikings could of recruited the shit out of players - but yet to be seen....

Big Dave Akkersdyk is/was the Jindabyne 8 and played has played for the Brumbies Provincial side (made up of Monaro and SIRU players). If he is coming to Queanbeyan it will be good to see how he goes in Premier Grade rugby

Yea mate - seems to be a handy player - after reading the Cowra Write-up on the Whites website looks like Dave will be playing for Queanbeyan -

http://whitesrugby.com/cowra-country/

Will be interesting to see if he plays 1st grade - honestly not sure where he would fit into the 1st XV at the moment though - 6,7,8,4,5 are taken (unless players have moved on in those positions but I don't believe so) - then Qbn have some gun centres...I think a starting 2nd grade player - being a very good bench player for 1sts....

Ive heard today that Wests beat Royals in all grades with trial games??
Also Vikings beat Q'byn in Colts, 2's, 1's? Vikings 1's were missing a number of quality players due to rep commitments and injury. A number of new faces playing on both sides which is always good to see. After all thats what trial games are for. Thoughts anyone!

Have not heard much about the Wests V Royals game.

Vikings have a HEAP of new faces - and alot of 1st grade players gone from last year - at one point you thought the Whites might run away with it but Vikings came back for the win - VERY hard to get much from the game though because you don't know who wasn't playing/who is yet to come in, in 2 weeks time.

The no.10 for Qbn looked the goods - not sure if a new player or from the lower grades.

Could be a very interesting year - if that is a "true" Vikings squad they are def weaker than the last few years - but seem to have some good Colts players coming in.

Re: Dave Akkersdyk he was one of the standouts in 2nd grade for Qbn and then replaced Penca in 1st grade - Qbn have a heap of good forwards but I think you would have to try and squeeze Dave into the 1st grade side somewhere...maybe even in the 2nd row..

I didn't see too many new faces in the main game? Potentially just the fullback?

There were prob 6-7 players that were in the starting 15 that were not full-time first graders last year - and I had no idea who anyone on the bench was.

By new faces some of which I mean were lower grade players - playing 1st grade.

Off the top of my head I know they have lost 6 or so KEY players...so will be interesting to see how they over-come that - think it will be an interesting year!

I hear the FB is from QLD and has come down for colts. He was only filling in due to Isaac Thompson coming back from hami issue, Andrew Robinson covering for him at 10 while Ernest the usual FB covered Robbo who would usually run at 13. Ben Hynde? is in SA for Brumbies so young Callum Smith was covering for him in the No.4 jersey. No.1 covering for big Sione while he is away for International Tongan duties. Michael Oakman-Hunt is rehabbing for a short while and will be in back row. A few guys have left for QLD comp, shute shield etc, but still a lot of depth. It was only a trial game after all. New coach just wanting to give some youngsters a run for confidence and once again to build some depth. I think when the senior squad are all back they will be a very competitive side.

Was wondering where Sione was - thought he may of left or retired possibly.

You would think this year Thompson will go to 10, Ernest at 15 - Robinson in the centres - but you never know - they may simply slot Thompson in at 15 and away they go.

Any1 watch the Colts game? Vikings had the biggest Colts front row I have seen in awhile - with the No.2 being one of the quickest guys on the field over 15-20m scoring two awesome tries.

On another note the Shute Shield game this weekend is Eastwood V Easts - so hopefully get to see Rowan Perry in action for Easts.

Any1 willing to put some predictions in for the ladder this year yet? Lets have a crack. . . . .

Vikings
Whites
Royals
Wests
Uni
Easts
Eagles

Yes I am going to say Easts will finally get off the bottom of the ladder....not sure how confident I am though.....
