I want to start by saying that I have thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed reading and partaking in this forum. You guys are good.

Secondly and talking the GF this weekend, momentum is a wonderful thing and with Jammo back into the framework, I can see momentum coming. I don't think that Bond will be silly enough to make the same mistakes as they did two weeks ago. If Bond wont muscle up and contest the tight stuff with some strategy then its good night I'm afraid.

But I think they will. Well played Dragons. Well played everyone. Its been a hoot. BOND by 7

Likewise it has been a great season on Green and Gold Qld Colts forum, the banter has been enjoyable. A shout out to Sage for keeping the stats and us regulars engaged.
All the teams have played well and I hope to see majority of the players return next year in either the Colts or Grade Rugby.
To Sunnybank and Bond all the best for the final.
Play hard, play fair and enjoy!

Yes he was injured, but not sure what it was. Last played against Bond in round 16, but was injured during the match. He is playing Colts but only got 2 games in all season.

This is the Brisbane Club Rugby colts "blog" therefore just a shout out for the other Colts GF's for this weekend.

In Colts 2 we have UQ v Easts, with UQ dominating the regular season. East hung on to defeat Brothers last week. Think that UQ should take this one out.

In Colts 1 it's Brothers v UQ. Brothers have been dominant in this comp., however that said UQ have beaten them at home. I think Brothers in this one.

The big finale in Premier Colts is Bond v Sunnybank. Bond deserved minor premier and swept away Brothers challenge last weekend; can they go all the way?

Good luck to all this weekend

Morning Guys,

Great discussion through the year on here and a great competition coming to the end of the line, really enjoyed it.

I'm going for Bank this weekend in a close one, Bank by 7 by my reckoning.

Who is the Colts player of the year? This may open a can of worms but always an interesting topic.

I'll put three names out there:
Hamish Stewart(Bond)
Effie Maafu(Wests)
Lorenzo Skelton(Brothers)

All worthy candidates!

I'll back Angus Scott-Young. QLD & Aust u20's, Reds contract, & Prem Grade GF. Great season for the young man.

The GRAND FINALE!

Premier Colts

BOND v SUNNYBANK

Bond last week showed that they were able to turn around the momentum of Brothers and take the Preliminary Final fairly comfortably in the end. Whilst both sets of forwards were fairly equal, it was their back-line, particularly the 10, 12 & 13, that made the difference and gave the advantage throughout the game.

Bonds scrum was sound and the line-out had its moments, but on the whole, was adequate. There scrounging around the ruck was also good and added pressure to the Brothers back-line. The backs were not really tested last week in defense. Brothers decided to employ the kicking game, a majority of time, and the 12 and 13 lacked confidence to run at the line. Bond played very well as a team and there was a wonderful try in the second half to prove it.

The Bank had the week off and for the one's I saw last weekend at the PF, seemed fairly relaxed. There tight 5 are possible one of the best in the competition, with a back-row which has shown promise. They have a good scrum and are dominant in the line-out. They play a scrubbing style of rugby (where they like to make the oppositions ball dirty) and this will add pressure to the Bond back-line. They need to watch the off sides though.

People on this forum have raved about the back-line and they have been prolific scorers during the regular season. Over the last few weeks they have made yours truly eat some of that pie; good for them. They have McNamara coming back (? no prem. duties for him) and I think that will be a positive. The one thing I can say to them, from the Major Semi a few weeks ago, that the backs need to attack the advantage line. I agree with HTC, that the #22 preferred to grubber (in the major semi) rather than use a change of pace to beat the opposition. RUNNING AT THE LINE is very important for 10, 12 and 13, just ask Brothers. Who knows maybe you may make them miss a tackle or two.

Last week Bond had their mojo back. However without the #9 momentum in the backs may not be taken for granted. Maybe the performance against The Bank in the major semi was "that moment" on the big stage or maybe it was The Banks style of play? If there are cracks in Bond, well, The Bank, its time to expose them.

I think that running at the line, the break-down and line-out control will be the key factors in the match. Both teams have backs that on their day can score and score well. This will be close. Now which way? Well since the others have picked the "easy way" (in Bond) I'm fairly happy to take the DRAGONS!! Go the GREEN!! ("it's not easy being green" - Kermit the Frog, but it can be very satisfying).

The BANK DRAGONS by 7

Yeah good luck to both team and hopefully injury free.

Good call NCWK (on the Dragons)

I can back Lorenzo Skelton, a truly wonderful wing, the best in the competition in my opinion. He can just about push anyone and get to the line under extra-ordinary circumstances; I don't think I can say that about any other winger. He was the top try scorer (?) in the comp. His conduct on the field and off is exemplary and he plays hard but to the letter of the law.

That's true break-down, but I think NCWK was talking about Colts who actually played in the BRU Prem Colts.

If we're talking about the QRU 'Colt of the Year', I don't believe playing in the Colts competition is the criteria.

If not, Efi Maafu hands down.

I think you wouldn't get disagreements on any of the three...

However, pinning my colours to the mast I will go with man from the bulldogs in Maafu...correct me if I am wrong(any wests people on here?) but he is a colt next year as well, so too Hamish Stewart...a good crop of players coming through these grades. It is great to see and great to see a spread of talent.

Skelton has been sensational on attack all season, strong, quick and agile with a real poachers instinct.

Thanks sage for seeking my opinion. You see faith where others don't - not even me. I think I have tipped every losing team in finals so far!

(And thanks for all your good work carrying this thread).

With that inspiring form I am going to tip Sunnybank by 10. They will stand offside all day like the semi final and employ a rush defence to stifle the Bond backs. Short range tries will abound arising from field position and plenty of penalty goals after over-eager back-row pilfering gets pinged.
Bond will struggle with cohesion when their winger and halfback (the two Harrys) go off injured (injuries brought into game). By the time Gavin Luka comes off the bench with dynamic impact the game will be over.

If Bond wins it will be despite the coaches, who will scratch their heads and wonder why half the squad leaves the club next year (Hint: Look in the mirror).

Mate you are always welcome, been a pleasure "firing over the bows" with ya this year. :) Your views (above) insightful as ever.

I think your KOD status will fail this week; and your not in the cellar!

No steak and Champagne, maybe a beer instead?

Btw is that a good rumour about Bond boy's leaving??
