I agree with all the sentiments. I've always liked McGregor and his style of play, it lends itself to a more expansive type of rugby (vanilla). Unfortunately I think the type of player preferred in Australian rugby is the hard running, willing to take on the line type (crunch) player.
The old adage "harder to get out than to get in" is also the case with Nucifora & Goddard. If you put the 2 together they are probably on par but do they drop the incumbent for a par substitute?
NSW & Qld are known for their "Breeding ground" status and in moving sideways to move up you invariably also take a step back and have to prove your abilities that much more in order to get a look in.
I do hope McGregor makes the squad as I think he has the goods but whether that's enough for the selectors remains to be seen.
My opinion.

The reason why I question that combo is. Why were they allowed to leave the NSW development structure if they were long term prospects? I think the u20's is all about developing players for future prospects (and I'm playing devils advocate here) don't get me wrong, they are good players, but if you're not on the long term radar, you will find it difficult to get selected unless you show exceptional skills clearly out playing other players in that position.

THe brumbies have won more premierships using the players NSW never pursued or rejected than the tahs have with their favoured choices.
George smith went there and the tahs got Waugh.
AA-C
Mortlock
Knox
Hooper
Sio
Crawford
And many more - all with different legacies having played to and at various levels.
Tahs talent identification is pretty hit and mss, I mean, where is Horowitz at rugby wise, just to take a timely for instance.
McGregor and Goddard were both in gen blue while at school so they were on the radar.

- I wouldn't get too excited about the team lists that show left lock and right lock and ditto for centres - it's an historical thing through all kinds of rugby. For Super Rugby games (and no doubt others) the managers have to give the team lists in that format at a prescribed time before the game.

And of course you often see the left lock pack down on the right. The centres classification is a nonsense.

- The NSW team.

It's good that some others are getting a shot, and none of the replaced players can argue too much.

In their first game both scrums were excellent with few collapses but when Cody Walker came on to play LHP and HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) switched to THP they walked the Force back and NSW scored. So starting with that front row will be interesting.

Truth be told the NSW back line hasn't been noteworthy outside of the 9 and 15 - with the 13 showing flashes of brilliance with the scraps he has had.

The two schoolies in the Gen Blue starting team are replaced. 10 Wilkinson did will enough but as with his school last year, he was better with the run than the pass and was really a 12 playing 10 well. Kuenzle, a schoolie himself, is more of a flyhalf.

Winger Jaffer-Williams was also promising and, like Wilkinson, we'll see him again next year. King has been around the blocks a bit more and will have a chance to make a difference.

12 Boardman gets a run in place of Lokotui whose strengths are more that of an individual. Perhaps we will see more of 13 Chee-Kam with the changes inside him - but maybe he's not as good as I think he is.

Let's see.

PS - I see that reserve winger Mohi is listed. I thought he was shamefully overlooked for Aus Schools' honours last year and am delighted that he will get a shot.

I think you'll find that if McGregor was still at Gen Blue, he would be starting 10 and probably captain. Goddard and McGregor as a combo have been successful in the past having played together in NSW winning the champs, one of the biggest reasons Gen Blue have not performed as well as expected has been due to losing these 2 as well as Maddocks. I can assure you that they weren't discarded, Rebels pulled off a coup.hats off to their recruitment officer.

I notice that Perese isn't mentioned anywhere as a centre.. he is definitely eligible. He and Tuipuluto would be devastating in the centres, chuck in potentially Hutchinson / Kennewell and Maddocks at the back you have a very capable attacking back line.

He would be great at 13 at the U20 level as he was in the NRC last year; but the Reds started him against the Crusaders (on the wing) last Saturday night and it is doubtful that they would release him for U20s if they think he's going to be a regular.

We can strut around on the keyboard and say what a shame it is but the protocol is that the Super Rugby teams, and the Aus Sevens in the case of Hutchison, will make the decision not us.

Who knows - maybe Perese is getting a run anticipating that they had to give him a shot early and that he could go to camp at Bond before the Aus U20s are chosen - or send him to the Narrabeen camp even later to play in the two warmup games they have in Sydney before they get on the plane.

Yes that is a tasty midfield combo - Izaia P with Sione T, isn't it?

Weather may be a big factor in Brisbane game this weekend.

However doesn't look like the case in the ACT; the weather more regimented there ;)

Thanks for providing those details - they are the first I have seen on the Bond timetable. So it's a different format again - not playing the Kiwis twice as they did last year, which was the best way to make the final assessment of players for the Worlds.

The Super Rugby players who haven't played for their state U20s will be dropped into Bond, though they could be put in at the last minute for the warm up games - typically against Aus Baas and NSW Country - after getting some training content at the Narrabeen camp.

HTC who is James Gall?? (Don't worry Second rower from Churchie 2014. Played prop for Easts 2016 for one game). Must of been injured or a phanton on the run-on sheet.

The run on team is very good. But I have a few question marks on a couple of the forward reserves. I think Qld is a lill short in experience there compared to the NSW guys.

May have to go back to the computerlator; add in the weather, reserves - hmmmm margin shortening~!!

Sage I think unlike previous games where many changes were made in the second half, this one may only be on a need to basis. Crunch game for Qld and they will not be able to give an inch.

Yeah I agree. Unlike previous games where the reserves got a run from the 50th min. I think for this one, only if a run on is injured or from the 70th + min. Still a wee bit of a worrying for me.

Ready yet for any predictions??

I was going to go Qld by 14, but may wait. Young Brumbies by at least 15.
