Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

While we don't know the Rams' squad, we do know that John Manenti is the head coach. It says so on his twitter account.

Would have guessed that anyway, him being Eastwood's boss, but there's been no announcement (which I'm not surprised by either).

He is a damned good coach.

Was happy to see the Coleman-coached Rats get the Shield though.

Confirms the Rams "re- re- branding" as Greater Sydney, also - which I suppose is to accommodate the beach boys from Manly.

What's the go there? Marlins spat the hook with their former Rays partners?

Look, I'm not saying Penrith or Parra players deserve to be picked, but they could at least put the club badges up there.

WTF are they doing to Western Sydney - embarrassing how Parramatta and Penrith are treated....so much for how important Western Sydney is as a growth corridor. So who are Penrith and Parra affiliated with....

It would appear that none of their players made any of the squads from what I can see.

The club badges on the graphic above aren't club sides that are directly affiliated with the Rams. They are all the clubs that have a player in the squad.

The selections of Dunbar and Hickey are interesting as I didn't believe that either of them played this year. Have they been injured?

Someone please explain how this all works.

I thought Warringah was aligned with the Rays and Uni with country.

Can players be selected from anywhere?

Is there any sort of selection criteria? Do they try and develop any young players (like McCauley)?

Wouldn't the Cowra player be a better fit for Country?

Or is it just the best possible 15 players you can find from wherever?

There are some broad allegiances between Shute Shield clubs and NRC teams but the players certainly aren't locked in to any one place.

Teams can sign who they want.

There are more Warringah players in the Rays than this side and more Uni players in the Country side than elsewhere.

John Grant used to play for Eastwood which is probably why he is in this squad.

So disappointed the Rams are now wearing basically an Eastwood jersey and just playing out of Millner.

The Rams use to represent hope for Rugby in NSW. We were finally branching out of the East but self interest has screwed that up again.

I was actually a little surprised to see how few Eastwood players started. Expected the team to be stacked with them but it was a rather fair mix. While I'm not a fan of the strip or the fact all the games are in or around Milner it was fairer than I expected.

They should be called the Eastwood Rams
Bit of a joke all of this

Wouldn't surprise me if we eventually see that happen. The colours are about right for it. But the mix of players on the field was pleasantly surprised as I wasn't expecting it to be essentially just a rebadged Woods squad.
