I think RA are going to give the rebels every advantage to ensure they do as well as possible in an effort to cleanse themselves of the axing of the force.

If the rebels have a shocking year, RA will crucified.

By any measure, any at all, it is overdone. Seriously.

Wasn't Magnay told that if he signed the Japanese contract, he wouldn't get an QRU/ARU contract.

He signed anyway

I actually think RU have to stand strong on that one else we will have a generation of young players missing offseasons in Japan. Circumstances are a fair bit different

ARU only changed their stance on this policy in 2017 after supporting it previously, but it wasn’t communicated too players, clubs and managers until a few players had already made commitments to Japanese club, Magnay included.

It just highlights the complete incoherence around what has been going on at St Leonards / Moore Park. Castle has some flow charts and Venn diagrams to put together fairly quick-smart.

I don't think that is quite correct. The flexi contracts were always limited to a set number per the wallabies and per the super rugby side. Magnay just needed some rugby after playing bugger all in the past two season. NRC season only gave him half the number of games the Japanese season will.

TOCC is correct. It's what caught out Toua and the Brumbies.

There were other players like Ah-Wong and potentially Alcock and Smiler that were also caught out by this.

The flexi-contract term is thrown out quite a bit and in all honesty anyone including Non-Wallabies can take one up anywhere and anytime.

Every individual is different and every case is different. The catch is that RA want players to sign in Australia first and depending on the individual he then can look to take up contracts overseas during the later months during and post NRC period (Sep-Dec maybe longer).

They are totally against it happening the other way around though which is understandable. Some players want to force the move overseas e.g. McMahon & Magnay and some are allowed e.g. cases like CFS, who was allowed to look in Japan post Reds season to get more footy under his belt.

Also hearing that Magnay & McMahon will turn out for the Sunwolves in 2018.

the 6th I think?
So Reg, any news on who was on the training paddock. With Hunt now out of consideration did we see a re think on Cooper or Frisby by coaches? With Premier rugby season still some time away, not sure how Quade can get back in team unless coaches change view. To start new year training down 3 senior players none of which due to injury is beyond strange and surely worthy of further comment by Reds Management. Not their fault that Hunt is out but certainly worthy of being asked where to now by the fans and media.

I’d say training starts again tomorrow rather than yesterday.

Probably the most interesting/intriguing question at the start of the pre-season.

Given the lack of communication from the QRU over whats going on, its a little hard to not but feel despondent about the upcoming season, QRU's handling of the Reds over the past 3 months has been shocking IMO. Starting with the rumours over the head coach circling for months and then the Quade/Frisby issue, as a potential member for 2018 you would have to ask what attraction is their to sign up and give your money to that organisation.

It is a pretty simple equation. They are doing well in any measure that marks how to "un-rust" supporters. This second treatment of Quade is too much.

So Brad needs the courage of his convictions, and he needs to be right. OK, it's not a polemic, he needs to be performing to some kind of level with his decissions.

The only thing they could do to perfect their disrespect to fandom, would be to belatedly do something kind further "length of bus dick" competition, but with Slipper.

However, HQ's biggest error, is the blunderbus treatment to avoiding home games during the Commenwealth games. Watching Brad is going to be difficult. Reds have created problems, Brad has created problems.

Before the Christmas break there were a few extra players training with the squad, as you would expect. A couple of props that looked familiar, Gavin Luka and Richie Asiata I think. And a couple of other players I was unfamiliar with.

given your knowledge of the game TOCC I am intrigued by the players you were unfamiliar with.

Ok, what I've got from social media so far! - James Slipper @ training - Scott Higginbotham @ training - Taniela Tupou @ training - Nick Frisby doing his own thing (stairs )

Tony Hunt should certainly have a place in the squad since since Riley went to Japan and the issues with Quade and Karmichael.
