Interesting that 2 Waverly boys got picked straight from their school teams and not via NSWJU State Champs. A bit surprising as these age groups don't have school rep programs, so means that selectors must be watching U14 school matches??
Quote of the year at 57:15:
"Will Tom's dad give him the cheese?"
"Ohhh, Andy Grey gives Tom Grey a yellow card, father and son relationship."
"Not going to be a good dinner tonight"
Snort,
My view is that unfortunately this will only happen following a serious litigation against a school / association for exactly the mismatch and resultant injuries that you have mentioned above. The thing that surprises me is that schools are usually so risk adverse and have reams of risk...
WLF3, like Snort, I have banged on about evenness of match ups before.
I don't understand why associations don't ask schools to nominate a 'division' for each of their teams. If the Waverley 14A's nominate as division 1, and the Waverley 14B nominate as division 2 and that was known amongst...
My understanding was that traditionally there was a requirement for A teams to play other A teams in the CAS competition. This requirement didn't apply to lower grade teams and they could be matched however schools agreed.
I do know however that last year there were instances whereby, for...
Chatting with some Oakhill parents on the weekend and unlike most of the other CAS, GPS and ISA schools (with obvious exception of Joeys) rugby seems to be booming at Oakhill. Think they mentioned that the U14 had enough trialing to make 6 teams. Presume the problem Oakhill has is finding...
Ignoring the Opens (and people playing with dispensations), how do your schools structure their “age groups”. Do they play in their school year group or do they play in their birth year age group? Eg. Are the u15 teams all year 10 boys or year 9 and 10 who were born in 2008?
Aloys pre CAS draw has been published.
Stannies, Kinross, Sydney Grammer (twice) and Pius (twice).
Presume the need to double up on Pius and Grammer comes from needing to find appropriate match ups (both in terms of numbers of teams and standard of play)
Just wondering if anyone has heard anything more from their respective school's re the CAS competition structure this year?
Wondering is it was going to be:
a. 1 round CAS comp with 6 or so invitationals preceding??
b. 2 round CAS comp with 1 or 2 invitationals preceding??
c. Combined...
Presumably their wouldn't be many at that level (Gen Blue U16) who didn't play Harold Matthews??
I am not close to it, but quickly looking at the Souths team and I could see a few other names from the Gen Blue U16 team (Tovio, Le Maitre).
Not sure if it is 100% true, but someone mentioned to...
Be interesting to see if the St Pats boys stay at St Pats.
I happened to be sitting in the grandstand last year and got chatting to the guy next to meet, who turned out was Woods' dad. Very down to earth and wasn't interested in the offers that were coming in from other schools.
I guess when...
This is effectively what the Waratah Shield was.
Post the mid 80's (when rugby fizzled out in public schools) it was mostly dominated by Canberra Schools (Eddie's / Daramalan / Marist) and was certainly a big focus at the ISA schools (Stannies, Oakhill). Every now and then, a GPS school would...
