What a game that was. Padua thoroughly deserving winners. Ashgrove threw everything at them. Schoolboy rugby at its best. What a pity the professional game can’t tap into what was on show at Banyo yesterday.

The ridiculous red card to the GPS halfback 5 minutes into the second half definitely helped their cause.

Couldn’t disagree more. Marist are far more a “champion team” than a “team of champions.” Last year’s Marist 1st XV had all the individual brilliance but couldn’t put it together as a team. This year’s side have been brilliantly coached and they’ve all bought into the game plan as a team.

I think you’re right with the poaching. I was told this year’s 9As lost their four best players to GPS schools.

I think Lauries are going ok. Maybe a shift away from their 10-man rugby blueprint is the way going forward. The big question needs to be asked, what the hell has gone wrong at Iona? These guys were a powerhouse two years ago in the 10As. I hear grumblings the school is more focused on rugby...

I would put in context of the game played and the opponent. A 65-0 drubbing of the bottom of the table team up against what was 1v 2 game between Ashgrove and Lauries.

Team of the Week is officially cooked. How does the Ashgrove fullback not make it when he scores a hatrick in a top of the table clash.

I think we can safely say Ashgrove are the real deal. Have passed their two biggest tests putting on 55 vs Iona and 52 vs Lauries. Tricky away trip in Round 6 vs Villa. Get a win there and a Round 7 grand final awaits at Banyo.

Way too many aimless kicks from Lauries in that second half. When you’re chasing the game why would you keep giving it back to the opposition? You can’t score points without the ball.
