As a Hawke's Bay boy I'm ecstatic. In the 60s, as a young journo I saw the Magpies hold the Ranfurly Shield for three years, so to see them take the log of wood from Otago means a lot. A young side, they may not keep the trophy long, but right now who cares?

Hi red, good to see you again. As a Kiwi, I see the Boks as the No 1 enemy, a historical thing, I guess. Am old enough to remember '56 when the whole country went rugby mad. It still feels great to beat the Springboks.

This All Black side would be the best I've seen in more than 50 years of following rugby. The Wallabies were far from disgraced. But somehow they have to find a way of manufacturing tries against a defence that looks almost impregnable. One fluke intercept isn't nearly enough. Looking forward...
