    NSW CAS Rugby 2021

I remember talking to the Trinity coach in the week they played Waverley in about 1997. He told me that he'd been working all week on a plan to contain Ryan Cross. Well, on the Saturday Cross ran in four tries, and when I next saw the coach, I said, "Shame about the plan". "What do you mean?"...

WLF, well done - nailed Grant Lodge. The other was a Trinity winger named Graham Rolleston back in 1961. Lodge and Rolleston each scored four tries, so if you adjusted their efforts for contemporary scoring, Rolleston would have scored 37 points and Lodge 33. Unfortunately St Aloysius was on...

OK, so someone at Barker came through with the 2020 scores, which is really helpful. Confirms my suspicion that Mitch Wheals may have set a new CAS record: he scored 30 points (two tries, 10 goals) against St Aloysius, which is the most by an individual in a match that I have found so far. I...

Yes: anyone know a contact at the school who may be able to help?

And just to clarify: not only was Barker's 97 the highest team score ever recorded in the history of the competition, but I suspect Mitch Wheals may also have broken the record for the most individual points in a match.

Well that sucks. Hard to see Round 3 being played on 17 July. On the other hand, if it gets changed and becomes the last round, it could be a suitable climax to the competition.

Thanks, but what I need is names - eg, try scorers, goal kickers.

Ok, still can't find anywhere the scorers in the 2020 Barker v St Aloysius match. Anyone able to help?

Not sure I agree with the point about GPS mismatches. Bear in mind that three GPS schools (High, Grammar, TAS) play their 1st XVs in the 3rd XV competition - mismatches don't come worse than that. Last year Shore's 1st XV lost all five games and conceded more than 50 points a game on average...

And, look, I love CAS Rugby. Have for years. But here are the last five winners of the competition: Waverley (unbeaten), Waverley (unbeaten), Barker (unbeaten), Barker (unbeaten) and Waverley (unbeaten). This year it will be Waverley (unbeaten) or Barker (unbeaten). In other words, if you're...

Yes. People who have been on this forum for a while know my views on this, but the inflexibility of the GPS/CAS/ISA split holds Rugby back. It's way past time for someone with a bit of vision and courage to do something about it.

Does the Waratah Shield still exist? It was a great concept for deciding the best school team in NSW. Unfortunately, the GPS/CAS schools prioritised their own competitions, so it never really worked. But the idea was sound.

Yes, that's what I thought, but I came up with a lot of gaps.
