I attended the IGS v TSS 1st XV game this weekend. Certainly not a spectacle of schoolboy rugby that GPS allude to.
The referee certainly played a significant role.
I have heard that a certain school in the Qld GPS competition for 2014 is not fielding any teams below "B" grade because these lower grade teams do no count towards aggregate points for the season.
Shouldn't schoolboy rugby be about PARTICIPATION?
I can tell you for a fact that the eddies Director of Rugby was at those trials to protect the kids already enrolled at Eddies from those up the road who take every talented footballer in Ipswich, leaving Eddies to take who they get and mould them in to Rugby players. Eddies lost several boys...
IGS beat Eddies in a good trial. IGS trys scored off Eddies errors. Eddies just couldn't finish somegood raids. Need to learn patience. IGS 2 and 6 look good. 9 needs to learn how to use his arms in the tackle. IGS big No 8 shy of other big polys.
As I understand it Jason Gilmore was keen to have a good showing in this game as a couple of his proteges from his time at the Reds were coaching the Eddies team.
Eddies are playing the curtain-raiser to the Reds-Cheetahs game at Suncorp next weekend against TGS. Interesting to see how they go and to see how TGS perform under their new coach.
