CAS Rugby 2025

Ill be 23 years out of school next year and my last CAS game I watched was in 2013 Knox v Barker due to relocating to London....Appreciate how early we are but does anyone have any predictions for next year? Will it be the same 3 battling it out for 1st or will there be a smokey coming through? Have a great christmas all.

It’s been a battle of 2 over the last 8 years; Barker & Waverley with cycles of recruitment seemingly being the difference….. with the completion starting earlier and then the ISA/CAS rounds last it could be different

Fair enough and let's hope for a competitive season... We lost to Waverley for the first time and our only CAS loss since 15A to Knox in 99... Bit of a shame to see that my alumni is bringing in players to fill the spots of kids who had earnt them throughout. My only understanding is that the kids aren't from Rugby playing families anymore.. Looking forward to reading more in the new year.

I understand that Barker is has a pretty strong recruitment drive at the moment. I know of two new boys that have decided to go there after considering other offers. They will be in the u15s for 2025 and look very promising. Not sure if this is also occurring in other age groups as well.

LOL.

It's some recruiting from Western Sydney. I have no doubt that the two boys will end up in League however they will be a benefit to the Barker Rugby Program for sure

That is pretty much the norm these days.
More than likely they will be Penrith League Juniors that probably play for Blacktown Scorpions Rugby on Sundays.

A regular pathway for the likes of Barker, Waverley, Newington and Kings….

Well well well...

After a lengthy off-season, the Pork has left the Den and returned to the G&G forums! I'd be wrong if I said that I'm not excited about this upcoming season and the new combined competition I've been hearing about!

Without bias, I truly think that the best watch this year will be the Waverley vs Cranbrook clash (Their rivalry is always a cracka!). But I'm sure the Brooky boys will get up!!! #OCA #Tonga

Anyways, All the best to the rest of the CAS in what will be a very successful year ahead.

Big fan. Well done all for doing something and not just taking shots at the GPS for going 2 rounds which overall has been a success for that comp and I don't see it changing.

This is a boost for all Schools Rugby in NSW. Shouldn't say all because I want to see CHS get back to a degree of competitiveness but this a good step.

Fantastic to get this off the ground and get 'buy in' from every Head of Sport and more importantly, every Principal ( I did hear there was 1 or 2 principals that were hard to crack). To the group that got this done, congrats, you've gone above and beyond your job description and school boy rugby will be stronger because of it .

Re - CHS. I don't know if they're ever going to get back to where they were. Now that kids can represent SJRU and the Country areas and compete directly with the school associations, I don't see a need for it and I suspect CHS eligible kids are voting with their feet. I'd imagine that the CHS team will become the fallback position for anyone who missed out on Club rep selection.

Other than a small handful of schools, they don't develop any talent and only provide a pathway. It's a real pity that Rugby is all but dead in the CHS system and I wish it wasn't the case.

It is why the move to U18s instead of a Schools base has the chance to be more comprehensive than the old model. A kid from a Public HS can be playing Colts Rugby and be picked from that over not having an avenue anymore in the CHS system. Rugby can circumvent the system.

I presume some form of weighting like the subbies club champs.

Will presumably also mean that CAS needs to keep more detailed records of the various As championships which historically have been more unofficial if I recall.
