Marist played the Far North Coast NSW rep trial squads who are trialling for positions to play in the NSW Junior State Championships in June. The Marist 2nd XV played the FNC u16s and Marist 1st XV played a combination of the u18 FNC team with a large volume of the u16s backing up. I'm not sure who organised the games on the same weekend the Ballymore Cup was being played. I wouldn't read too much into the results as 65-70% of the kids who will make these FNC sides were away with their school playing in the Ballymore Cup.
After looking at results from the Ballymore Cup it appears that St Laurence's is on track for another strong year only loosing one game the GF to Ipswich Grammar.
On the other hand Iona have a long way to go, after finishing last in Div 1.
Eddies and St Pats played in the Div 2 comp both managed to get a couple of wins. Which would probably be better for their confidence going into the season.

After Ballymore Cup IONA are not looking strong will be interesting to see how they go against a confident lauries side.

predictions for trial games:
-Lauries 12+over iona (iona backline to fumble infront of the hungry revenge seeking Lauries side).
-Marist 30+ over villa (despite pre szn injuries, the men from ashgrove will flog a extremely young villa side).
-not sure how the joint game will work between splc/act v eddies, but I see the splc/act getting up marginally.
- padua to no mercy pats and put 25+ and will rest some of their players but they will be told to execute there game plan and achieve there goals through the trial, and with that will come points, might even be told to slow down and hold off.
Dont seen any upsets as of yet, will have a better understanding for rd 1 post trial week.

Heard rumors Seb "The Beak' Gardener is taking the reigns as captain of the Ashgrove first XV. Can anyone confirm this?

Would be severely disappointed in Ashgrove if they selected him as captain, he is a bit of a hot head and cannot maintain his level of leadership throughout the whole game. I would select Xavier 'The Pantry' Howard, he is calm, respectful and can maintain his leadership through the whole game
It's on Marist social media this morning Seb is Capitan and Xavier is VC.
