Australian Rugby / RA

Had a sad discussion with a Brisbane mate over Easter. He called out "Queenslander" at me and I didn't get it, but I was wearing a recent Reds "Traditional" jersey in maroon. On rugby his thoughts were "yeah, what happened to those guys, they used to be big".

I miss 2011.

I have the same at work. I’m the rugby update on Monday for everyone. My boss was rattling Tahs of the 2003-2006 era off for fun but could only name Michael Hooper and Nawaquinatawse because he’s gone to the NRL and he follows the Roosters and wanted to know if he’s any good.

Rugby exists in a pocket now no different to Soccer fans tbh. The sooner we’re comfortable with it the sooner I think the game can grow from it and not think they are fighting with the NRL and AFL.

Some interesting paragraphs from Geoff Parkes in his Roar article this moring

Kiss’ appointment should have been locked away weeks – months – ago. But, worried about continuity in the coaching group from this season into 2026, the Queensland Reds dug in, seeking an agreement to allow Kiss to continue as Reds coach in 2026 or $600k in monetary compensation for early termination of his Reds’ contract.

Reports have emerged from within the Moore Park fortress of some Rugby Australia executives and board members highly dissatisfied at the actions of fellow board members from north of the Tweed River, choosing to align behind a maroon flag, not a green and gold one.

The rift – and a fracturing of the relationship between chairman Daniel Herbert and CEO Phil Waugh – will be pushed to the side for the next few months as everyone basks in the reflected glow of the Lions visit.

I'm not really following the rationale of those that think (actual figure aside) financial compensation is an unfair ask from the Reds. Disregarding any disruption to the team, they undoubtedly would have had to fork out for a rushed and unexpected search for a new head coach from their own pocket, and potentially may even have had to compensate Kiss for early termination of contract (obviously depends on the finer details).

Sorry but Geoff can eat a bag. We don't this crap.

Is there ever a work place that is a truly cohesive utopia? No.

Actions and decisions over the last 12-18 months from RA and between Waugh and Herbert have pushed Rugby in a better direction than before their tenure. Do they have to agree on everything? Absolutely not, and back and forth can be good for all sides which I think has happened in this instance as well.

These situations are stupid to argue over.

If the All Blacks came to us and asked for Schmidt to be released early from his contract to coach their side what would happen? We’d either say get fucked or yeh no worries but give us $1M so we can secure another high quality coach ASAP.

Yeah isn’t the sign of good compromise when both parties

What’s the old saying, the sign of a good compromise is everyone leave a bit disappointed?
RA rightly should get their man because we need the wallabies to be as strong as possible. But the Reds also require stability to particularly to help us meet those performance incentives in that new media deal.
Whole thing is a storm in the teacup and will be forgotten pretty quickly with some success at super or wallabies level.

I've read the comments on the Roar article and I think there are quite a few people who think similarly to us here: that this was good outcome and that Parkes is trying to spin it as some catastrophe, presumably because of his antipathy towards RA.
It is a good outcome.

What he is trying to spin is that some on the RA board weren't seen to be acting in the best interests of RA with their actions through the process.
