Given at times over the past few years they’ve struggled getting 4 grades on the park I think the focus will be on that this year.
No sign of Forrest colts again this week. Worrying signs for them given the strangle their colts program over the last few years that has supported the club

I think Div 1 is in the best shape it's been in in a long time. I can't pinpoint a weaker club this year, I think most clubs will be competitive across most games, and I wouldn't be surprised if they opt for no relegation / promotion at the end of the year, though maybe the Petersham / UNSW resurgence will force their hand.

Newport APPEAR ready for the challenge, Lindfield will be better for last year's experience and ran home strong, and then Colleagues, Mosman, Waverley, Blue Mountains, Hunters Hill and Drummoyne could probably be considered 'safe' stalwarts in the Division nowadays.

I guess you never really know until you see who's who in the colder months middle of the year.

Agreed, was looking at the Div 1 fixtures this morning and it's a strong looking competition. There is always a bit of Div 1 resentment on here (which at times is understandable) but the competitiveness (on paper) of this year's competition can't be denied.

Few Kentwell tips for round 1:
Lindfield v Mosman - Lindfield to continue their impressive Kentwell 2024 campaign to start the year. Pretty quiet off season from the Whales so don't have much to go off here. Lindfield by 12.

Newport v Drummoyne - Could be a real "welcome to 1st Division" for Newport. Drummoyne typically strong in all grades and look to have picked up some decent talent. Newport to win Colts but think the Dirty Reds to have the Breakers covered in Grade. Kentwell - Drummoyne by 5.

Hunters Hill v Colleagues - toss of a coin to start the year between two heavyweights. Giving HH the benefit of the doubt at home. Predicting a high quality match up. Will be great to see 5 grades, colts and JJC between played out in one massive day - great effort. Hunters Hill be 3.

Waverley v Blue Mountains - match of the round. Huge day awaits at Waverley Oval. Both clubs have been prominent in their off/pre-season social media. Big numbers across the board and close finishes predicted throughout the day. Will give Waverley the nod to start the year - maybe a bit fitter to start the year but it's anyone's guess! Waverley by 2 in a nail biter.

I know Drummoyne are really good and Newport are the new kids on the block, but hosting up at Porter gives them almost a bonus point head start. The worst ground to be a visitor at in my experience - sea breeze, rabid crowd, sometimes you'd be glad to lose so that you'd make it out alive. Don't underestimate the home ground advantage they have - best of luck to even the best clubs, you'll need it.

Especially if as forecast it’s supposed to be wet. It’s a miserable place when the weathers bad and the crowd will be push Newport the extra mile as well

I'm hearing Waverley are bringing in a group recently fresh out of Randwick top grades. If so a very handy hook up and will be hard to beat by any team.

Blueys - no news on big signings besides their player retention posts on socials.

Apparently these 2 newcomers are Shute Shielders and have their Kentwell debuts this weekend.

I'm inclined to back the Breakers at Porters too, kicking off their Kentwell campaign in style - momentum is a funny thing, though I certainly understand favouring the always classy Drummoyne outfit, should be a cracker.

Newport knocking off Drummoyne and Irish knocking off Forrest last week would be a big shock to all the doubters in this forum this year

Has the forecast changed at all in the last 48 hours?

I checked ours and while on Monday we had 5 solid days of rain predicted, it is now backing off a little

Waverley - Lebanese Lamborghini and other Randwick Shute players
Colleagues - Easts Shute Shield Players
Blue Mountains - West Harbour, Parramatta and Southern District Shute players
Mosman - Eastwood Shute players
Newport - Warringah Shute Players
Drummoyne - Decent players - Any news on who

Hunters and Lindfield. Can anyone confirm from here? Hunters and Lindfield are usually prominent on these pages when things are going well.
