Meat to the crowd? How do you figure that when most of the team have been there since year 7 or 8. Stupid, ill-informed comment. You should check your facts before sprouting ill informed nonsense.

The irony of people moaning about the Newington side this year is that it was arguably worse last year with their 1st XV having 4 or 5 kids who were out and out league kids - Humphries, Rodwell, Warner and a couple of others. But because they weren't successful it wasn't an issue.

The primary success of this year's squad is that they have been playing together for a long time and there are many who played last year whilst in year 10 or 11 who have backed up this year.

The approach to scholarships driven by the previous DOR is changing - and to the majority of parents, and kids at the school, this is a good thing. It hurt the rugby culture - which in a school that is not a "rugby" school like Joeys or View - was significant.

This new team play excellent rugby and are great to watch. That should be celebrated, along with the fact that the new DOR has a clear focus on shifting the rugby culture back to where it should be. But it won't happen overnight.

IMO - Leauge clubs paying for kids to attend a GPS school is fine and in fact is probably a outstanding understanding of what rugby AU could and should be doing to retain kids. why is AU not making deals with GPS schools to help retain talent?

I like it
The retention rugby pathway.
12-18yrs - scholarship program
18-21 - French development (on the basis they do not naturalise)
21+ Super
25 Wobbly

But meaningless until grassroots and free to air sorted (but there's another thread for that)

View Principal Mark Tannock, last week:

"At Riverview, sport is a means to an end. It is not an end in itself. The end we pursue is our mission of forming young men who give glory to God through the development and sharing of their gifts.

Unlike the other winter football codes we offer at Riverview (Australian Rules and Soccer), the pathway to higher honours for Rugby Union in Australia runs through independent schools largely on Australia’s east coast. This means that GPS Rugby is of a particularly high standard. It is a joy to watch our committed and talented Rugby players compete on a weekly basis and we understand the strong interest that their play generates from families, Old Boys and the wider community. Some would argue it is the best form of the game in Australia in 2025.

However, we need to remind ourselves that this is still schoolboy Rugby and that the players competing for both teams are still very young men, and in many cases still children. Social media does them no favours by increasing their exposure. We appreciate our parents ensuring that our support for the boys (on both sides) on the day is always positive and they we respect the decisions of the referees.

We want to encourage excellence in GPS Rugby, but preserve its essential character as an amateur sport, played by schoolboys."

New story on the news

roosters signed a kid from a qld GPS school and have relocated him to attend Scot’s whilst completing year 10-12.

The gentlemen’s agreement between the private school rugby juggernauts of QLD and NSW against poaching talent from each other has been broken.

Star The Southport School No.8, Agapetos Lote-Felo, will complete his schooling at Sydney's Scots College after signing with Sydney Roosters.

I know Scots are right next door to Bondi Junction but culturally would New or Kings be a better home for these kids away from home? Avoid all those eastern suburbs shenanigans
You do not know the lure of the Plumer Road Chicken shop.

Isn't he at Scots already? He got injured and out for the whole season? This season? No where near Lemoto's level. Talented but not a Lemoto.

Realistically kings would be perfect for him, great professional program in the most multicultural diverse school in the country.

however would be silly not to send him to the school down the road, he has signed with east’s so playing and living at Scot’s makes sense as he will need to get use to the lifestyle
