ACT Brumbies 2026

Long odds about Bernie pulling the same selection game as this year. Will be looking for a wholehearted game against the Force after losing to them this year, and I don't think he will stack in the inexperienced players against the Cru like he did against the Drua this year. Will remember the poor form displayed by the experienced players the next game after Fiji.

Uh huh

It's always better to have the Crusaders early in the season than late. Most years, the Brumbies have been decent starters and the Crusaders have been more likely to build into their season. Most of the times we've got a win over them it's been in the first couple of rounds. If we weren't trying to do it without Lolesio, Ikitau and Hooper (and probably Wright), I'd be feeling pretty good about next season.

Definitely Wright, I've read his out for all next season. Super Rugby AU will be crucial for us to determine who our 10 (if Tane's not on tour with the Wallabies), 13, and 15 will be for next year.

Big win for the owls and great to see. There is a lot to like about there 5/8, great feet, but their pack led the way and good to see Mcpherson getting the call up to the Brums.

Based off the brief Canberra Times article it seems the Brumbies are going to search the player market for fullback cover with Wright gone. Any decent ones overseas? Maddocks and Banks both locked in deep contracts. Plenty of Aussies floating around in Japan.

It's pretty bad timing with the northern hemisphere clubs largely having locked in their squads for the season about to start. Doesn't really need to be an Australian for a short term coverage option though. They could go for someone like Elizalde, the young Argentinian fullback with Bristol - I think he's probably still on contract, but given they've just picked up LRZ, they might be keen to see him go play a season elsewhere on loan if he gets squeezed out of the 23.

Any deals like that would probably require Bristol (or whoever they're doing the deal with) to get through to January relatively unscathed in the outside backs.

2026 feels like a year that will be a bit of a struggle tbh. No Noah, Len and Hooper and now Wright, it's hard to see them contending. I'd be taking the hit for the year and prioritizing getting games into the kids. Pritchard could be good at fullback, he played there at school and he's very good in the air. Wilcox isn't ready but I can see him getting a game or 2. You could always park Merridith there now that they have Edmed. In a year's time you get Len and Wright back and you should have games into Pritchard, McLeod, Wilcox and Enasio (particularly the first 2).

be interesting to see which Pritchard turns out better, his Reds signed brother; Treyvon is carving it up in GPS 1st XV this year also, having moved from outside back to centre and now 5/8.... talented family

I like that appointment. Every team coached by Dan over recent years has had the best attacking structures and individual intent in the relevant competition. Hopefully, he carries on the good work with the top side. As I posted earlier, I think we'll see a different, less structured, attack with the Brumbies this year without Noah at 10, and Dan is just the man to bring that about.

On the fullback question, I wonder if Angus Staniforth might be available and interested in coming back? Played a bit of 15 at underage level and always looked like a player who could step up to Super Rugby level.

Probably worth talking to, but if he's still on contract with Aurillac I don't think they'll allow a loan - it would likely end his chance at JIFF status.

Off contract players from the NPC with recent Super experience would be Kade Banks, Coombes-Fabling, and Michael Manson. Manson would be too close in style to Toole, so if Brumbies were looking to fill out the position with a ready made player, I'd be looking at Kade Banks.
