I think he's running his own cross-code tackle technique coaching consultancy school based out of the sunny coast. He hasn't been in union directly since covid though, and I'm not sure he'd be the guy to run the defence at a strategic level anymore with that long out of the game.
I would love to see him (alongside a few others) more involved in "coaching the coaches" and academy development programs where that technical focus can have the most impact. There's a few independent programs like Ryan's floating around for skills, but we really only seem to utilise them on an ad hoc basis at the moment.

Yeh I think this is largely where rugby in Australia (maybe globally) is really falling behind and has been for a while.
The best offensive and defensive coaches don’t need to have been the best at executing those skills in a game. And more so, the teams are so adaptive that the best structures from ten years ago might not work now. There is just too much footage and data available for teams to pick apart.
It’s a pretty common thought process in most industries - get the best in breed for a specific task. If he’s still regarded as one of the best, bring Ryan in for 4 weeks if needed to get technical with the players in tackle technique without any defensive structure baggage. Do one job and do it really well.
I think part of the reason we haven’t gone that way is we don’t really know what a great modern defensive strategist looks like in rugby though.

I'd be getting Jack Maddocks into the squad, and even Banks - start looking at what real proper fullbacks can do with the boot, high ball, communication and positioning in the backfield.
They are alreayd over there, call em up, put them in WC consideration.
Maddocks is his club captain, killing it for his team that are on the rise, attritional NH rugby, tall, big, prime at 28 and over 120 full pro games.

We need to code in a pop up banner or push notification for posters, to ask them before publishing these types of comments, something like:
"Hey, I noticed you typed in [player's name] and suggested they should be called up to the wallabies. Please double check whether they are actually good - or if we just haven't thought about them for awhile, before posting."
Apparently a top performer this round though.

I genuinely have no idea - and my gut feel is that the majority of people who go "what about _______" don't either. They just see a hole in the side and feel like it should be filled with someone from overseas playing out of the spotlight.

Well there is a hole - and there could be 2 potential specialist, experienced options starting for teams in france right now, - I don't think its terribly wild to consider bringing them into the camp whilst in europe to have a good hard look.
