I agree, I don’t think Ella would make it in current rugby, he’d be regarded as having too many errors in him, isn‘t big enough, doesn’t bench press enough and his bronco score isn’t up to scratch!
TGOR - re your 'take influence' comment...one thing that suprises me is the proliferation of tries in league from grubbers into the in-goal area and how that hasn't taken off more in union. I used to think the risk vs rewards was too great (ie. 22m drop out if you didn't score), but with the negative outcome now being a goal line drop out, I am very suprised that more teams don't use it (noting that I get that league halfbacks make it look very easy and I am sure that it isn't).

Rugby players can barely catch the ball on the full if you watch the Wallabies. I don't back their finer skills to execute this.
In League they benefit from the forced distance apart. Even on the line the attack will create the space and go back. Rugby seem to creep toward each other which would make executing the kick really difficult. Rugby also has the 9 sweeping around the back of rucks which would clean it up where as they only have the Fullback and two less players on the field so naturally a bit more space.
I think it would be worth a go though. You would definitely shock a few sides and cause them to second guess there defensive set ups which can be almost as effective later in a game.
