    Sydney Subbies 2022

With open selection, we’ve actually come up with a plan to play our 1st grade in 4ths, 2nds and 1sts! In all seriousness, if you genuinely think that a club who has a chance to take out 1st and 2nd grade (as they have all season) and would “stack” 4ths, then you’re a few sandwiches short of a...

Is this one of those things where you feel like if you say it enough that it'll come true?

    Death of a Subbies Club

I guess Balmain falls into both categories... Hills have gone up from 2 teams in the early 2000s to Div 2 Knox were in Div 4 for a long while until a surge up the ranks happened to land them in Div 1 with a Kentwell Cup to their name. Redfield had a brush with the upper divisions on the back...

    Death of a Subbies Club

My old man played for Matraville in their good days back in the late 80's and into the late 90's. 5 grades strong and stories of bus trips and crazy times on the field and off the field. I've also heard the story many times about the club going down but I think a few factors at play, not the...

    Death of a Subbies Club

Was curious if anyone had insight into how some of the bigger and more successful clubs in Subbies over the last 15-20 or so years managed to go from seemingly thriving (ie 3+ grades) to dead or on life support (ie 1 grade or defunct). Managed to draw up a list of those clubs that came to mind...

Div 1 sorted. Div 2/3 Epping up, Quins down. Div 4 to down to 7 teams. Convicts down. Div 5 has Hawkes. Ag listed again so take them out and move Brothers up. Div 6 to be incorporated with the Div 1/2 lowest grades?

Surely Barker forfeiting 2nds again has to push them out of Div 2 next season...

    Sydney Subbies 2022

The main issue I see is that it’s a guy that, by all accounts, should be in the NRL. 70+ NRL caps. Not NSW Cup, not Shute Shield, not Jersey Flegg. The NRL. The top level of domestic rugby, league or union, in Australia (don’t argue this one guys ). The ONLY reason he is not there is because...

Without a doubt this is the case at many, I would say a majority, of clubs. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. It’s more having a person that SHOULD be at the professional level playing against guys who are there on the weekend for a casual run around. If the person in question was late...

Haven’t got a clue about that, I think it only ever referred to Union contracts but not sure. If it was at the Kentwell/Barraclough level, I could MAYBE understand it (hell, a few years ago Ryan Cross, Matt Giteau and Drew Mitchell were playing in that competition). But in the Jeffrey Cup, it...

Also, posted to his Instagram of him watching the game yesterday. Can’t really see that being the case unless they’re extremely unfortunate to have that be the case.

To clear it up, he’s not contracted and hasn’t been since last year to the best of my recollection. So as far as I can see it’s not as if the club has done something egregiously wrong, perhaps just morally wrong.

Where does this forum fall on former (disgraced?) professional rugby league players playing in Subbies? Do we welcome it or is it frowned upon or is it pending the division/grade?

I’ve never understood why colts are placed where they are in the match day layout. Why not put them to kick off the day and then they can filter in where they belong from there. Not every Colt belongs playing 1st and 2nd grade. Put them at the beginning of the day and let clubs work it out from...

Thankfully only seems to be the fact that Forshaw 2 was more like a mangrove than a rugby field...makes sense to have called it off.

I never understood the concept behind “stacking” a lower grade when your higher grades are the ones winning...

Yep. Down to Div 3 they go. Probably put Briars in their place just based purely on playing stock numbers and the fact that they can field 3 grades and a colts where Quins are using Easts 4ths colts as their own.

While I agree that the geographical split works in theory, having teams more akin to a genuine 4th grade playing against teams who wouldn’t be out of place in 2nd grade (or partially in 1sts) becomes a farce. And that drives players away when you have a cricket score smacking you in the face...

Looking to next season, 8 teams per division has to be the end goal. See below for a possible layout that should keep most happy and minimise the weeks where a whole grade goes without games (see Div 2 4th Grade this season...). Thoughts?? Div 1 Div 2 Div 3 Div 4 Div 5a Div 5b 4 + C 4 + C 3...
