Hi DaS, To be honest, as a CAS follower, I am not thrilled to see any 2nds team playing another schools 1st team. In this case, when the Waves play View this Sat, the Waves 2nds look like they will be playing Views 3rds, and so down the grades it goes, mismatches. Not a particularly good early...

Hi Snort! I watched the New v Waves game last sat, a few observations. 1. Newington well deserved to win, they are a polished side and very fit. Whilst early days, I think they will definitely be a threat in the GPS comp. 2. Waves did have 2 key forwards and 2 key backs out, the backline had...

    CAS Rugby 2023

Very good attempt but not quite right, there would be several changes eg 14 in the 1sts is ineligible as he is now too old, and several other spots are probably not right, but it's just hypothetical.

Yep the New 16as was a very good side last year, beat Waves by a try on a rain sodden day at New and it could easily have gone the other way, the only game waves lost last year. Waves also beat Kings comfortably at Death Valley. However the waves have quite a number back from the 1s and 2s last...

Then it should be any interesting game at Death Valley, many are tipping New to win comfortably by 12-18+, will be very surprised if that happens but at this stage not too much is known of any team. Hope the rain stays away until after the game.

Wow, Newington must be very good this year, and good on them, why so?

Spot on Snort, The reality is there are many footy boys who need an array of footy opportunities as they aren't necessarily academic or trade focused, so the fact that they have 2 code options is a benefit to them. You could also probably count AFL in this mix as there are transferable skills...

RoD, Aside from whether it is or isn't good for Rugby, my gripes are as follows. By suddenly bringing in established superstars in year 11 or 12 it undermines the culture of rugby at schools, particularly for the younger boys who think they have a chance 1 day but then start to say "probably...

You have forgotten too many other very good back 3 players that are way ahead. I think we should stop talking about boys until the trials sort it all out.

    CAS Rugby 2023

Please stop with this rubbish, of the 3 you have mentioned 1 doesn't exist, 1 isn't eligible for CAS this year and the other is a real chance but no certainty.

RoD, I just read all your comments on this page and will respond in this 1 comment. Agree re the potential weak preseason issue that may arise because the GPS have gone back into their own little world but still there are plenty of good schools out there to play. Yep the quality of all sides...

    CAS Rugby 2023

G'Day RoD, The Waves haven't played an external trial yet, only internal trials. Next week a squad of 35 are off to Japan to play 4 local Japanese schools, and enjoy the experience, very lucky boys! Our 1st home trial is v Newington, then View, Oakhill, Auggies and finally Gregs/Puis. Then the...

I think your choices are really close except for 6 and 12, and the position of some boys here may well change. The Trials will tell. P.S. Don't forget the age groups intensity is a lot less than the Opens games, and there are quite a few boys now who will be playing their 2nd year in the Opens.

    CAS Rugby 2023

Hi Snort, the Trials start April 29. Very much over this banter about what Barker did or didn't do stuff, but I do hope we all don't see a whole new bunch of recruits suddenly turn up, from any school!

Agree, so I have pointed out some obvious omissions but the poster could be from a number of schools, as the Cranbrook suggested team is just stupid.!
