Exactly, the majority of GPS schools receive their 1stxv jersey/ cap just before the first GPS match .. maybe that’s the confusion here .. In the GPS youre only really considered in the 1xv if u play in the GPS comp … maybe there’s less of distinction between trials/comp rounds in the other...

No one is saying you deliberately want to play bad .. but if you had to pick to lose a game in the trials or the Comp .. you pick trials ever damn time

We aren’t NZ.. far from it you drop schools into a second tier division, youll dry up support from parents, old boys .. you won’t get boys who are rugby focused attending the school etc .. with your rational shore could have been dropped to a “second tier” .. what good would that have done ...

So what your saying is .. if two GSP schools meet in a trial match and then later in the Comp and it’s 1-1 .. the trial match winner should be given just as much validity as the comp round winner ?? .. it’s nice sentiment, but deep down we all know thats not reality ..

Obviously your comp doesn’t mean that much then… Cause I guarantee you, any decent athletes worth his weight wants to win the big events over the ones that mean nothing

That’s a test match champ ;)… not the same thing … a better example would be the Waratahs playing a trial game on the central coast in January but cute you hold trials games in such reverence

Nah a lot of GPS schools treat trials .. as exactly that …. trials … I know guys who spent nearly rhe entire trial period in the 1stxv only to end up in the 3rds … very harsh but not usual

you also have to take into consideration the mentality of the two sides going into that game .. one team was going into the game treating it clearly as a Trial … The other, like it was the rugby World Cup final … You can see evidence of this attitude clearly with some recent posts in this thread.

You don’t think Newington, Scot’s or Waverley don’t have boys with similar backgrounds too? ..cause they definitely do !! they also have catchment areas that compete with trinity (I see the Scot’s bus go through Rockdale and san Souci on my way home from work ) … The difference is theses...

Great news, will only strengthen the tradition between the schools and showcase what has been a very competitive year.. Imagine a team like shore who started off slowly and then coming home with a wetsail - the possibilities!
