Can I ask a question of the readers. Is the quality of the teams and players much lower than last year‘s comp. As a Joeys parent this years side is much weaker than last years team. Same too from what I have seen of Scots, Newington and Kings.
There will be a few backing up but mainly in the forwards. There is only the fullback Dowling, in year 11 from the Joeys Firsts backline. This will be the big test as the Joeys backline was the difference in my opinion over the other teams.
BTW does anyone know when the Aussie Schoolboys and.
I went to Newington today and it was a cracking game of rugby. I felt Joeys couldn’t have played any worse in the first half with their possession, line outs, scrums awful. Despite this Newington could only score 2 tries despite having the majority of possession, and 1 of which came off a charge.
Current GPS 1st backs who hold NRL contracts Suaalii (Rabbits), Penisini (Eels), Weekes (Manly), Koula (Manly), Kanaan (West Tigers).
Throw in other names mentioned...will come down to performance and injuries.
Many of “these league boys” attended these private schools as normal full paying students in Year 7 and are entitled to compete to play 1st’s Rugby for their respective schools. The schools are loyal to its students first and foremost, not to the future of Rugby Union. In fact if Rugby.
To be fair most of the contracted players have been playing Rugby League from a very early age ie well before they played union for school. Most have played development squad, Harold Matthews and SG Ball for their respective teams. In the current crop of GPS 1st players who are contracted.
